I shop this Farmers Market every Tuesday afternoon (also open on Saturday mornings, but it's more crafts than food then), and I really rely on it for fresh, locally-grown veggies. If you're not familiar with Farmers Markets, I think the best thing about them is that you're buying your food from someone who grows it, someone you get to know. They're also great community gatherings -- folks stroll and chat about fruit and recipes, kids play. There's prepared food, too, and plenty of samples to munch on as appetizers! And of course, the atmosphere of each Market reflects the neighborhood it's in ... so this one has a definite Silverlake energy.
Unfortunately, the Silverlake Market is kinda starting to dwindle. The vendors say it's really slow, and they have to worry about whether they can make enough money here to make it worth their while. If you live in the neighborhood, please come on out and support it! It may seem small, but if more people patronize...
   Read moreI gave this three stars however I wish I could give it five! The reason I cannot, the prices on everything are astronomical! And the Arts and Crafts are pricey as well. Don't come to the market thinking you're going to get a good deal here. For example if you want a three-pack tray of berries expect to spend $15 also the vegetables I've noticed don't last long in your refrigerator at all. Now on the people watching aspect it's fantastic and the surrounding areas are beautiful as well. Just don't count on your vegetables and fruits to last long in your refrigerator like they do when you buy at the grocery store and I'm talking organic...
   Read moreI don't really like this place blocking off the street I believe it's only geared towards people with a bigger pocketbook that's not even from the area the booth rental space is not cheap compared to other farmers markets in the area and if you compare it to the one that used to be downtown outside of the library how friendly and welcoming the manager of that market was versus this one it's not friendly whatsoever and they are extremely rude and offensive towards homeless when I'm there with my kids I don't want my kids to have to see people treat other...
