Before you go and enjoy the beauty you’ll find at SRF Lake Shrine, remember that the gardens are an outdoor temple where people sit, meditating and praying in the peaceful Oasis, please be respectful of others. As with all things, everyone’s experience will differ, but ultimately anyone can find peace and tranquility whether taking a stroll along the lakeside path or taking a few moments to sit and reflect. For me, I found the small alcove with the Madonna and Child to be especially solemn and calming, allowing me to honor my deceased mother surrounded by the comfort of beautiful flowers. My mother loved flowers so my time in thought was very special. If thoughtful of all religions, you'll able to appreciate the different areas of the grounds that are dedicated to various faiths, connecting them to God.
Dedicated in 1950 by Paramahansa Yogananda, Lake Shrine invites people from all over the world who come for peace of heart and mind, just as Yogananda envisioned. The grounds also hold a Gandhi World Peace Memorial where a portion of Mahatma Gandhi's ashes are enshrined in a thousand year old sarcophagus. It’s difficult to find a more undeniably gorgeous place like Self Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine to spend time in thought and prayer. I would highly recommend a visit to anyone who needs to get away for a few hours of quality time away from the rat race of...
