I've been to Mackinac Island three or four times throughout my life, and from what I can recall, I have never actually been outside of the titular main city and fort while visiting. For this reason, I made it a goal for us to visit the Arch Rock landmark while we were on the island. To get to Arch Rock, we exited out the back of Fort Mackinac and turned right (westward). After a couple hundred feet we came to a woods where we found a fork in the road. Left, middle and right. We decided upon the middle bike trail which made for a beautiful trek directly to the rock, about 15-20 minutes of walking total. The trail was clean, well shaded and included numerous informative plaques about the flora present on the trail. Upon getting to Arch Rock we saw the magnificent structure that triggered my climber's itch. Of course, climbing is not allowed on the rock but a boy can dream. To the right of the natural monument was a catwalk allowing for alternative views of the great structure as well as the bright blue lake Huron in the background. Altogether, the journey was well worth it!

Nice stop if you like to enjoy beautiful vistas and get in some cardio. There are over 200 stairs to climb to reach the viewpoint, but there are benches interspersed along the route if you need to take a breather. We climbed the stairs with an 11 year old, and it felt perfectly safe. The views along the climb are wooded, so you may peek the lake as you ascent, but there are no real vistas until you reach the top. At the top, there is a crowd in the summertime, and you can wait for your perfect photos of the Arch with the beautiful blues of the waters below. Don't forget to take in the view from the lake level by riding/walking just past the arch stairs entrance. There are bathrooms at the top and also other places on the island loop, which was great. You never felt uncomfortable from not being able to find a restroom.

Short bike ride from the downtown area. It took about 20 min one way to hike up if you prefer the steps. There are about ~200 steps and can be doable by most. If you have time at least it is doable up and down with some 19 min time spend on that too (considering you have rented the bike ). Top of the rock view is amazing to watch the lake for top. Restrooms are at the top and I don’t find any vending machines or fountain. Steps are well maintained. There is an another way you can reach the top by road way from inland and we haven’t tried. Plenty of spaces at the top to park the bike as well as some spaces available to park your bike at the bottom of that hill as well. Worth the hike and we had a party of 4 year old kids and baby too.

Arch Rock is simply a natural wonder! This iconic limestone formation on Mackinac Island is absolutely stunning, with its unique shape and breathtaking views. The hike up to the arch is manageable and rewarding, surrounded by beautiful trees and serene scenery. Standing underneath the arch and looking up feels magical, and the photo opportunities are endless. The historical significance adds to its charm, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and history buffs alike. Whether you’re exploring the island or just enjoying a leisurely stroll. Only downside is all the other visitors can make it busy but same with everything on the island

There are a few different ways to get to Arch Rock. We decided to walk along the outer road of the island so that we were next to the shore. The path we took lead to stairs for the viewing area. However, there are other roads and trails that will lead you there. Once at the top, carriage tours make a stop. There are restrooms available as well as an island map next to the viewing area of the arch. There is a walkout to see the arch at several angles as well as Lake Huron, and Mackinac Island. Have your camera ready for some breathtaking moments! It was absolutely beautiful! Definitely a must see while on the island.

The best part of the island. Such a beautiful spot and the views over the water are amazing. You can get to it from the fort or walking lake shore road. I recommend walking the road, lots of nice spots along the coast line to see, great picture spots. However, there are over 200 stairs to get to the arch but they have few seats to rest on the way up. Once at the top, you can walk back to the fort and ferry area without having to go back down the stairs. Horse and carriage and bicycles are also ways to get to the arch if you’re looking for an easier way.
