Regarding the food at the 1852 Grill Room, I really can't add anything that hasn't already been said. This is an excellent place to eat. We enjoyed breakfast there three times this trip. This review is about one thing, and that was our waiter on the morning of July 20th; that was Joe. He was courteous, efficient, and attentive. And then it got *better*. My wife and I are an older couple, and we have an 8yo daughter who loves chocolate milk. Joe brought our initial drinks that morning, took our order, and came back to check on us a couple of minutes later. Our daughter had already downed her chocolate milk. Joe noted her empty glass, and, being on my wife's side of the table, turned and discreetly asked if she wanted him to refill her glass immediately or to wait to bring more milk with her breakfast order. My wife, of course, agreed that he should wait. Joe's attempt at discretion could not beat our daughters' highly tuned ears, however, and realized what was happening. She put her hand against her forehead and shook her head solemnly as it became obvious she wasn't getting bottomless chocolate milk like she did one time last year there (that was a fine indulgence, the one time). It was like a cute scene out of a comedy show. As parents, we are thankful for the respectful discretion over such a simple thing as when to refill a glass of milk. Our daughter would drink chocolate milk to the exclusion of food if we allowed it. Joe clearly understands how to deal with young children in a professional yet courteous and pleasant manner. That one discreet question from Joe made our day. Thanks!!

Had dinner at 1852 Grill Room last night. First off, the food and service were excellent. We had mussels (incorrectly called Prince Edward Island and the sole meuniere with risotto and Brussel sprouts. The parm risotto was some of the best I have ever had. For desert, the fudge Sunday. Service was prompt and efficient. Lovely atmosphere overlooking the harbor. However: It seems no one on staff had any knowledge of the wine list, so we ordered blind. Fortunately it worked out. The mussels, listed as “PEI” were actually green lipped mussels. PEI are a different species of black mussels. Not a bad thing, because green lipped mussels have a milder flavor and aren’t as briny as PEIs. They were delicious. I actually prefer them, just misrepresented on the menu. They also list a “Scottish” salmon, described as “Pharoh island filet”. The Faroe Islands is an Island nation territory of Denmark between Iceland and Norway. World renowned for its Salmon farming. They produce an especially rich and flavorful Atlantic Salmon, not even similar to Scottish. In my opinion, one of the best in the world. Although due to its strong flavor, not commonly served in restaurants. One final note: Check the fine print at the bottom of the menu. They charge an additional 3.4% convenience fee on the bill. Just be aware that the food prices are actually higher that listed on the menu. Have your own opinion, but I find this particularly offensive

Right off the bat, I have to say, any negative reviews left during the height of the pandemic should be ignored. Our experience was phenomenal. We started with crab croquettes and a bread board. The horseradish sauce on the crab croquettes was to die for. For our entrees, we ordered their take on a surf n turf, and the planked whitefish. I would order the whitefish a million times over. The flavor from the board it’s cooked on is delicious & I couldn’t get enough of the mashed potatoes. The asparagus was huge & cooked with a bit of crispness left - which I love for a grilled veggie. As for our service, we were welcomed in by two very nice hostesses. We were seated in probably one of the best spots in the house. Surrounded by huge windows, with a gorgeous view of the water. Our waitress paced our time here perfectly - we took our time and enjoyed. The live pianist was performing during dinner, which was the cherry on top. Us foodies can’t wait to come back again and try more of this menu! If you’re reading this review, please remember that restaurants took a very hard hit during the pandemic. Most places were just taking it one day at a time. It’s really not fair to leave such harsh reviews during such an awful time. From my perspective, 1852 Grill Room has left 2020 behind them and is killing it. Thanks for a great dinner!

Didn't have time earlier to write out my review, but here we go- WOW, WOW, WOW- What an all-around fantastic experience! From the start, making the reservation and the follow-up from them was great- emailed to confirm, called me, and sent a text reminder- it was way cool the way they had it all together... and the little hostess was so nice! I had read reviews prior to reserving for wifey's birthday- and made sure to ask for Oscar- a fantastic waiter! Explained everything thoroughly, made suggestions, and really made sure everything was perfect. I think he felt almost honored that we asked for him. What a humble and nice man. The food was out of this world- Wifey had Dover Sole prepared to perfection; I had the "Fruit of the Sea" with Squid Ink Pasta- Unbelievable and too much to eat in one sitting after delicious appetizers- Crab Cakes, BBQ Shrimp similar to what I've had in New Orleans, and Chowder. It was just too much for me, I got to have leftovers for home. (Oscar did warn me...) This leads me to my only real complaint- The To-Go container was kind of cheap and flimsy- the lid did not seal well so that on the long walking trip back to the Ferry and beyond, it made quite a mess in the bag. You would not expect this from such a "High-End" joint! All in all, one of the most wonderful dining experiences in my life!!!

Breakfast was a joke, $18 for paper thin pancakes! Literally, paper thin! I was so upset when I seen them, I thought to myself, is this how the rich eat? Because this place is not cheap! We were expecting good, quality food. We didn’t see our server until our food was gone, I did save a small portion to complain with some evidence remaining. The manager came to see me and told me a discount would given on my pancakes. Both the manager and server told me it is not normal for the pancakes to be so thin but why serve them then? Where is the quality control before the food goes out? The kitchen didn’t care when they saw how watered down their batter was and how thin the pancakes were. And the server didn’t mind bringing me the plate when he could have told the kitchen no, they are unacceptable quality. Not to mention our cold, dry, tough bacon that had to have been sitting for a while. The excuse that the staff was really busy cannot be used, they were not this morning. I’m not exaggerating, photos with my review to show the quality of food we were served. We had several nights at the hotel but did not return here for any meals. I’ve had a lot of pancakes in my life and I have to say, “these are the thinnest! And yet most expensive for what you get, or don’t get”, should I say.

Our first visit to the island was made even better when we decided to eat here. We made a reservation the day before for 6PM and it was the best time in our opinion. We didn't experience another meal that even came close to this one (we ate at the Grand the following night). Kevin our waiter was A MAZE ING. Very attentive and service was top notch. We were seated near the window which absolutely made the meal even better. The food came out quickly and just like we ordered and the wine service was excellent as well. At least one person at the table had the wedge salad, a cup of soup, the prime rib, the center cut filet, a chicken Caesar, artisan bread board, the pecan crusted rainbow trout, or the planked whitefish. The entire table shared the chef's tower sampler for an app and dinner sides: parmesan risotto, creamed corn with bacon lardons, green beans and roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon. We all had a little bite of an ice cream cookie sandwich for dessert. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would return ourselves, in fact we are considering the hotel for our next stay.
