It pains me to give MPR 2 stars, as we had hoped for soo much better! 1. Check-in: painfully slow and the young lady who checked us in made no mention of us celebrating my wife's 40th birthday or our 7th anniversary (which were in reservation notes), and worst of all didn't even check that we booked the Romance package! Common sense should have alerted staff that we were possibly celebrating something. No mention of my wife's birthday or our anniversary on screens either. Guess no one reads the reservation notes. 2. Wine & Cheese: The house Chardonnay (as confirmed by waitress at Bistro on the Greens, who stated house wines are not good) was absolutely disgusting and tasted as though it had soured; we ended up pouring 3/4 of the bottle down the drain. This was, of course, AFTER we spent 25 minutes tracking down a wine opener...why would you offer a wine & cheese amenity WITHOUT having a way to open wine for guests!! 3. Room: Room 1250 (even though it's a suite) there are no views, just bushes out the window. The lighting is also quite insufficient for the room. However, a bright flood light right below your windows ensures you see light outside ALL night. Very small bathroom and window a/c units with ceiling fans. Opened Water bottle in closet was left by either previous guest (gross) or by staff (also gross) and didn't make us feel as though the rooms were thoroughly cleaned. 4. Round Island Grill: Fine for breakfast but lunch/dinner were underwhelming. It is the only restaurant on Monday, as rain closes Bistro on Green. Was served whitefish plate and the fish was at least 1-2 past its fresh date and shouldn't have been served to guests. Put expiring fish in dips, not as the main focus of a dish! 5. Theater: showing a movie without popcorn (when a popcorn machine is sitting on the bar) was disappointing. However, not as bad as a bat flying around the movie theater and staff not turning off lights for 10 minutes into movie, or not having a family remove a noisy child who was ruining everyone else's time. 6. Bistro on Green: Excellent Gyro and burger but beware of too much broth for mussels! Also, if your house wines aren't good just change them! 7. Staff: Most of the staff are Caribbean Islanders working on visas (as a form of cheaper labor for MPR) and be aware they continue to move at island speed so nothing is done with haste, even with upset customers. 8. Romance Pkg: Gives you $300 for food credit which MPR hopes you use at Chianti ($125/pp + 20% tip = $300). Don't fall for this, use it for Breakfast at Round Island Grill and lunch/Dinner at Bistro on the Green. And be ready for the piano player to play Kiss by a Rose by Seal during your 'fancy' Chianti dinner...yes really Seal! We did a lot of research before deciding on MPR and we were frustrated, upset, and left with a bad taste not only of MPR but Mackinac Island in general (due to issues at MPR). I don't know if we'll ever be back on M.I. but I can promise you we'd never stay at MPR again nor will we recommend it to any friends or family. Hopefully, MPR uses this review to prevent future guests from feeling like they wasted $1500 for 2 nights.

Not recommended for the amount you pay. Had to be moved after the first night. The second room had no drapes that block sunlight. Requested a drape from morning to night without anyone coming up to work on it (after reassuring me someone will be up to add something each time). During the day their service desk was not answering their calls from the phone in the room (kept ringing forever), at the same time I used my cell phone to call their phone number and someone picked up. The lady said she sees the line that am calling from (within the room) and will go ahead and pick it up now. So they will not assist the tenants, but make sure to answer outside lines. She said someone will come to the room right away and no one shows up. After complaining at night, security finally added some cloth to block sunlight to be able to sleep. Every morning the staff were yelling down the hallway waking me up while using their loud vacuums in the other rooms with their doors open so I was hearing all the noise. The third day, I flipped the pillow to find a huge spider on the pillow itself that may have been poisonous. If you are using their spa, DO NOT request Annetta for a massage. She never asked me how the pressure is or what my preference is for the whole 90 minutes. What a waste of my time for 90 minutes that I could have used to do something useful. She was rubbing my skin and not giving a massage. I told her twice that I need more pressure (I am not an old fragile lady and you can SEE that I have a muscular body type, which requires more pressure), but she would not change anything. She kept saying that I should have used a hot compress prior to the massage for her work to be more effective. She definitely needs to do something else that she is good at and should not be a massage therapist. The only thing was good was their steam room that worked well, but it also took five minutes to kick in (initially, I thought it wasn't working). Their sauna never worked at all and remained at room temperature no matter what I did and I saw that it was on high temp and in-service. Their bottle sprays for Eucalyptus did not work at all, but the cap had to be removed for me to use the bottle. Their body wash in the shower was empty. Overall, it was a bad experience, but luckily I did not spend much time in the 'resort' and was outside for most of the day. PS: Annetta left about 20 minutes before the session ended saying she was out of oil, and I have never heard a therapist say this before. She came back five minutes later with very cold hands. Although, she did stay for 5 minutes after the session ended even though I did not need her service at all and could not wait for it to be over since it started. There was no public Wi-Fi at all in the locker room and the phone data services do not work in there. Their staff came in the locker room and I asked if I can get the password to the locked network and he said that he does not have it and the public Wi-Fi has been down for some time. Therefore, I did not have anyway of getting a hold of my friend that was waiting for me.

We’ve been loyal guests of Mission Point Resort for years, returning annually for our family vacation. We’ve always loved the atmosphere, the grounds, and the charm. But sadly, this year’s visit was nothing short of a nightmare. We arrived with our young family (three kids under the age of four), unpacked, set up the crib, monitors, toddler beds — the whole routine — and settled in for what was supposed to be a relaxing three-night stay. After our first night, all of us woke up feeling congested and unwell. My husband checked the air conditioning unit in the room, and to our absolute disgust, it was completely covered in mold. It had been blowing cold, mold-contaminated air into the room the entire time. My husband immediately went to the front desk to report it. While they were apologetic and moved us to another room, anyone who’s ever traveled with young kids knows that relocating rooms mid-trip is a logistical nightmare. We lost hours of our trip repacking, moving, and trying to re-settle the kids — not to mention the stress of exposing our medically fragile infant (who has respiratory issues and a feeding tube) to mold-filled air. We spoke with a manager who offered us a $175 credit and a comped dinner — which frankly felt like a slap in the face. This is a resort that charges $650+ per night — this isn’t a budget motel. At a minimum, we expected a full refund for the night we unknowingly slept in a mold-infested room. It was a major health hazard, especially for our baby, and their resolution felt wildly out of touch. As if that wasn’t enough, when we departed via ferry with our three exhausted kids in tow, one of our five bags was missing. After over an hour of searching, calling Shepler’s, speaking with security, and visiting other docks — we found out Mission Point had left the bag behind. We were told it would arrive in the city two hours later, but we couldn’t wait around that long. We’re still waiting to find out if they’ll ship it back free of charge, but communication has been poor. And finally, after all this, we received our itemized invoice after checkout and were charged $97 for a meal at Round Kitchen — a restaurant we never even stepped foot in. I’ve made three calls now trying to get this fixed, and it’s still unresolved. We’ve loved this resort in the past, but this experience was unacceptable — from the health risks to the poor customer service, to the mishandled luggage and billing error. Mission Point Resort can and should do better. Right now, it feels like they’ve forgotten what it means to truly care for their guests — especially families traveling with young children.

The resort has been renovated since my stay Memorial Day weekend 2021 and the improvements are noticeable elevating what I already deem a 5 star resort to a true luxury resort. The restaurants were fully staffed and operating at capacity and the service remains impeccable! We were greeted by Latoya and Vivyan who shared that are room, although not ready, as we arrived hours early, they would contact us via text when our family suite was available. They wished my daughter a happy 18th birthday and they had an electric greeting board for all special occasions to our surprise. The bell services team was on point and willing to take our bags and deliver to our room, Avian assisted us and the stellar professionalism continued when we returned later after receiving the text notification that our room was ready.||The family suite at the Straits Lodge is a short walk from the main lodge where you pass the spa (amazing), wedding pavilion, game room, theater, and a hall that conducts Sunday morning services. The family suite has a shared bathroom but separate quarters for sleeping, a King room with a tv, coffee bar, closet, sink/mirror area to refresh, hair dryer, iron, and microwave and hidden refrigerator, etc., as well as a cozy sitting area. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in in my life and I’ve stayed at numerous hotels and resorts throughout the world. At one point I did not want to leave the bed nor did my daughter in the twin bedroom area.||The other area contains twin beds, sink/dressing area large enough for two, tv mounted above that area, and closet. She too commented that although she has a full size bed she’d gladly downsize to a twin mattress of from that manufacturer.||The bathroom is standard with a toilet, tub/shower combo, and supplied with shower essentials. My only suggestion would be an additional sink in the bathroom versus leaving to wash my hands in the bedrooms. Also, there were no dressers or nightstands but there were areas to hang clothes in the closet.||We enjoyed dinner at the Round Island restaurant with great vegetarian options. ||There is a great lawn with plenty of Adirondack chairs where ever lounged overlooking the lake. They also offered evening Glo-Golf.||We closed out Labor Day weekend at the Lakeside Spa and it was phenomenal!!! Ryah helped with accommodations prior to our arrival and was able to reserve couple’s massage for my daughters first massage experience so she would not be alone. The quiet waiting area is tranquil filled with large lavish chaise lounge chairs and a hydration station. There are multiple saunas and you are supplied with lockers, robes, shoes, hair ties, and individually wrapped hair brushes, etc. the spa is divine with soothing music and lighting to relax your mind. Amy and another massage therapist came for us and the room was large, they wrapped warm towels around our feet, pampered us throughout the entire experience. We waited in the sauna until time for our mani pedis with Gail and Chloe. My daughter was paired with a younger tech, Chloe and they chatted like old friends and Gail and I laughed like we had known each other for years. I truly did not want to leave as we were cared for from the moment I called to make reservations and even after I left an item in the locker room they mailed it to my home address. ||I cannot rave enough about the accommodations and the grounds are beautifully cared for and 3 days is not enough to experience this resort. ||Note: They have bike rentals, baggage service from the ferry, small cafe at the Straits, lounges at the main building, pool, and more, all reasonably priced for this level of...

My family has previously had a good experience with mission point and the resort is very pretty but I was extremely disappointed with our experience when visiting this year. the staff gave little to no instructions and seemed like they didn’t even care the entirety of our visit, it started off at the front desk when we checked in and the lady at the front just gave us our keys and said walk around the corner to find our building, nothing about what to do with our luggage’s, when check out was, what things were dog friendly, what was open for dinner or anything about our stay, after walking around for 20mintues trying to find our room it took another hour to get our luggage to delivered to our room, afterwards we decided to get dinner at the restaurant on the resort since it was already late into the evening at this point, and the workers at the restaurant were extremely unprofessional, and the glasses had been left out on the patio so when they poured our water there were little bugs floating in the water, during our dinner we were greeted multiple times by different people and didn’t seem to have a server assigned to us, and no one seemed to know what was going on, once the food and drinks were delivered no one checked on us until we wanted the bill and overall was some of the worse service we have received at any restaurant, especially one with pricy food. Our room was also extremely hot and humid when we arrived and only had a small plug in a/c to cool down the large room, I had also seen online that the resort was supposed to be very dog friendly and other guests were provided a dog bed or other items for their dog in the room, and there was nothing provided for us, and they charged a 100 dollar pet fee for only 1 night. And the worst part of our visit was when we were leaving the resort, we took Sheplers ferry beck to mackinaw city and had a great experience as usual, upon arriving back to mackinaw city, all of our bags were there except 1, Sheplers employees were very diligent in trying to locate our lost bag, which contained hundreds of dollars of items, if it would had needed to been replaced, they checked their cameras and saw that the bag had never been delivered to their boat to be shipped over, the staff had called mission point multiple times and they were very dismissive and wouldn’t even check or try to locate the bag, and didn’t even care to know the ticket number or type of bag, thy just immediately said “we don’t know” and hung up the phone. The Sheplers staff said that mission point had been very difficult and unhelpful this year, and many people’s bags were getting lost because of it. my husband; a guest at their hotel, also tried to call multiple times and they would not look and replied the same, very dismissive, very unprofessional and disrespectful, and just hung up on him. The staff at Sheplers ended up locating the bag at a different boat company! And brought it back for us, so the mission point staff dropped it off at the wrong boat and wouldn't even take any accountability or try to locate it, extremely disappointed in the staff, service and professionalism! Overall this was not a cheap stay and we were very upset by our experience, and hope this can be fixed...

Bistro on Green: Excellent Gyro and burger but beware of too much broth for mussels! Also, if your house wines aren't good just change them!

Staff: Most of the staff are Caribbean Islanders working on visas (as a form of cheaper labor for MPR) and be aware they continue to move at island speed so nothing is done with haste, even with upset customers.

Hopefully, MPR uses this review to prevent future guests from feeling like they wasted $1500...
