I walked into this new location on John R, at 5:10pm on a Wednesday after work, to see how this store compares to another Asian store in Madison Heights that I have been shopping at. I had not shopped at the old location. The place was clean and well organized. The shelves were filled up. Compared to the other store, the produce section is less extensive but everything I saw was in good condition. I bought a bunch of 16 Thai bananas. They had very little bruising. They were in a plastic tray well wrapped in plastic wrap. The Thai bananas at the other store are just thrown in a big pile and get all bruised and damaged. The unfrozen fish looked more expensive that the other store. I bought a package of frozen "galongong" fish (aka galunggong or blue mackerel or round scad), repackaged in the store, for a good price of $2.99 a lb... The new location is very clean. Easy to walk through.
Time will tell if this new location has it.
The old place was small and had little overhead. This place will be a challenge.
Why do we go here? It has all the ingredients for PHO. That’s it. Simple as that.
