I went here to play magic with my brother and our friend. When we entered we all split up to look at the different things we were interested in before starting our game. My brother and I were looking at dice while our friend was looking in the Warhammer section. I heard one of the employees ask my friend how he was doing and my friend responded with “I’m having a great time!” and continued to look in the Warhammer section because he was really excited about it. I then saw the employee go over to the other employee sitting behind the counter and whisper stuff to him while pointing at my friend. This made me uncomfortable because based on their gestures and body language, it seemed like they were thinking my friend was trying to steal even though he was simply looking at stuff in the store which was the same thing my brother and i were doing, but the employees didn’t seem to be suspicious of me or my brother. From then on, both employees continued making suspicious glances toward my friend and the first employee took his food over to a table close to my friend to eat it which looked like he was trying to get a better view my friend. As i was checking out the employee behind the counter was making nice conversation with me, but continued to literally whip his head around to look at my friend. This whole situation seemed extremely odd to me because my friend is a person of color and my brother and I are white and the treatment between us and our friend was very different. We were all doing the same thing at different parts of the store (looking at the items for sale) and yet the only person out of the three of us who was being watched like a hawk was our friend. When we all sat down to play magic, I asked my friend if he thought the workers were acting weird around him, he said he could feel them staring at him and noticed they were acting weird around him as if he was going to steal something. He was uncomfortable because he didn’t know what he was doing to make them think he was about to steal anything. He brought up that maybe it was just because he was looking at more expensive stuff, but I whole heartedly believe that if my brother or I went to look at the Warhammer stuff we wouldn’t have gotten the same treatment as our friend did. This isn’t the first time our friend has experienced treatment like this due to his appearance which makes this suck even more. We all purchased stuff from this store before we started playing magic and we all regret giving them business due to the obvious racial profiling that was experienced. Thinking someone is about to steal based solely on what they look like is insane. I hope these employees will do better...
Read moreRating heavily depends on who we're talking about. They have a ton of Magic cards and accessories, and it's awesome that their website is set up to allow you to buy singles for in-store pickup (even if their server architecture is woefully underpowered and results in extreme lag on their site). If we are talking about John, I want to give them a solid 5 stars. Never a bad experience with him. Mike, on the other hand, is absolutely a 1. Rude and unprofessional doesn't even begin to describe his attitude. I had placed an order online last night for in-store pickup. It had a lot of singles and I wasn't in a hurry for them, especially as it is a pre-release weekend. This afternoon, we were over by them just by circumstance, so I thought I would give them a quick call and see if the cards were ready. I explained that I just happened to be in the area, and that I knew they were busy and would be more than happy to stop back another day. No problem on my end. He said that he actually had begun putting them together and that they would be ready in 15 minutes. We ran a few more errands and got there 30 minutes later. He wasn't done yet, no big deal. My wife and I were happy to look around the store and I even found a couple of neat deckboxes that I wanted. While we were waiting, he began talking to another person (another employee? No idea who it was) about how ridiculous my order was, and how much he hated putting it together. He made a comment about how he couldn't wait to be done with it, and continued on and on. I was standing right there in front of him. That's absolutely terrible customer service and I won't be going back ever again. If this was a one-time thing, I would chalk it up to him having a bad day, but this has been every interaction for as long as I've been shopping there. Why would I pay for an experience like that?
Edit: Based on the owner's response, I may have the employee's names switched. That's a simple enough mistake to make as they do not usually say their names in person. I otherwise stand by my review. And telling me that the security footage doesn't show anything? Look for when my wife and I were standing right across from the counter looking at the board games while one guy was putting together the deck and talking to another guy with longish dark hair and wearing a dark shirt. I just tried calling to speak with Mike and was told that he won't be around much this weekend, so there's not much chance of my...
Read moreWhile Mox's Buy List is in general lower than most other stores in Madison, there were a few cards which were higher. I brought a bunch of cards and some bulk, which their site say they buy at $6/Thousand. After briefly sifting through my bulk to see if there was anything good in there, they told me the site was wrong, and they wouldn't honor that price. They also nitpicked many of the other cards, and eventually I picked up my cards and drove downtown to netherworld to sell my collection there, where I ended up getting more money for my cards anyway.

thank you for responding. I appreciate that you have been having troubles buying cards lately, however your website to this day still reads " Bulk Magic Commons/Uncommons: $6.00 per 1,000"
My cards were not all or even mostly newer cards. They were not lp or Japanese or anything that would have excluded them from being bought. It is fine if you don't want to buy newer cards, but then you can't advertise that you're buying bulk at $6. With regards to your statement of "It should also be noted that our bulk buy price is literally double that of what our local competitor pays, which is why we occasionally have to temporarily suspend buying certain eras of bulk ." If you're not actually buying bulk, then your price is not actually twice theirs. NetherWorld and Misty are buying at $4 or $5 per thousand, if you're not buying bulk, you're not double them. If you would like to buy at $8 or $10, I would be happy to sell you my next collection instead of them. I've been buying a lot of collections on craigslist, and have been accumulating cards from older sets that I don't want.
With regards to the actual valuable cards, if you are the owner responding, I don't think you were the guy I dealt with, as he was much much younger, so I'm not sure how you're asserting that my cards were not in good enough condition. Regardless, having bought cards from you, I don't think your standards are different than your local competitors.
Again, I do appreciate you taking the time to reply here, I'm just not sure why you're advertising one price, but not honoring...
