Great fresh food, comfortable dining, reasonable prices.
I visited La Baguette for brunch. They have a truly Parisian menu featuring eggs done in a variety of forms including frittata's, French toast, Omelets and Benedict. Most are served with a salad and a baguette. The pâtisserie is in house; croissants and baguettes were flaky on the outside just like they should be. Not that the place was teaming with children but they have a reasonably priced kid's menu, most items came with fresh fruit which was perfect in portion.
Read the pamphlet available on tables to learn about Feng Shui and just how influential the owners are to the food scene in Madison WI.
A few things to note: they do not have huge portions like Monty's, they do not have fried potatoes, I don't think the OJ is fresh squeezed.
Note to the manager: Get new coffee -- Jacob Brothers coffee is too acidic and also served by Manna's. Definately change vendors next time you have the chance and watch your sales rise!
Just a little more.
I have spent the last 8 years in NYC and it took courage to step into a Parisian restaurant in a strip mall that included an ink and toner store. But it was really comfortable, had windows on 2 sides and the kitchen was not hidden so it feels real. The staff was cheery and the service was appreciated (nice sometimes not to have to bus your own tables like everywhere else in Madison). The food was light yet filling. I would recommend La...
Read moreThe rudest experience I have EVER had in my life. My 2 year old son was touching fake presents under the Christmas tree while we were waiting for the food to arrive. Someone working there claimed it was disruptive to touch fake presents. Then my son started to cry. We were told to leave the restaurant due to him crying. The workers and owner there said it is not a kid friendly place and to not to come back again. We were practically thrown out of the place and yelled at in French. One worker pointed to the door and yelled for us to leave. Please stay away!!! The food is mediocre quality. I have traveled to France several times and this is not representative of the high quality of French cuisine. I have only gone there in the past due to frequenting the hair salon next door. My son had just got a great haircut and we wanted to celebrate the upcoming holiday as a family. I am a pediatric doctor and will make sure never to recommend this place to my patients or families. Not kid or family friendly despite what is posted on yelp (screen...
Read moreOutrageously delicious food and kind service. I have come a few times and have tried the goat cheese quiche, the spinach/goat cheese crepe, and the Mediterranean sandwich while friends at work have brought their croissants to share. Everything I have eaten from here has been expertly crafted and use fresh/high quality homemade ingredients.
But there is yet another echelon to consider: their macarons. I indulge in these small delightfully colored disks with a dollop sweet creme in the middle every single time I come to La Baguette. As I bite down on one of the many flavors (try the blueberry and coconut macarons), I revel in the joy of the delicate outer shell giving way to the dense, spongy cake interior. The creme then provides a cooling, silky, butteriness that melds perfectly with the doughy feel of the cake. And this does not begin to address the richness of the flavors and diversity of their selection. They have truly mastered their baked goods and especially the macarons. Go try all of them and you will not be...
