I CANNOT recommend pickwick as it is currently. Pickwick has always been my favorite theater to go to for opening weekends because I love the mega theatre and know I can always find a good seat. Well this past Friday at the 7pm showing for black panther, I had the worst movie going experience I’ve ever had. The theater was packed of course, which is fine, but half of the crowd was made up of unsupervised teenage boys that spent the movie playing sound effects and animal noises over their phones, causing distractions, laughing at inappropriate times, and talking throughout. This was made worse by the fact that there were ADULTS in the the theater that continued to encourage this behavior by also yelling out, making inappropriate noises, mocking or laughing at the culture, etc. (later found empty whiteclaw cans by their seats so drunk adults = even better). I’m pretty sure many of us complained to the manager on shift but unfortunately the entire staff were also teenagers with no adult support to help curb a rowdy crowd. I don’t think it’s right to ask a teenage manager to confront a drunk adult without backup. The theater got so rowdy and horrible at one point that I had to leave the theater - only to find another group of teen boys playing soccer in the hallway. Even after the movie ended and we left, the boys continued playing soccer and kicking the ball pretty aggressively against the walls. They appeared to be friends with one of the workers on shift. When I was pointed to the manager to complain, you could tell this poor teenager had been getting the brunt of nonstop complaints because they were emotionally drained and stressed out. The manager indicated that rowdy teenagers have been a constant problem lately.
Needless to say, I don’t know if I can go back to Pickwick until its management is under control and there are better policies to regulate when kids can show up unattended to movies. We paid good money to see a movie we had been waiting months to see on opening weekend to end up with a horrible moviegoing experience - and I can’t even say I got to SEE the movie in its entirety or appreciate it for what it was. It’s a shame that this wonderful theater has been overrun by entitled teenagers with nothing better to do than ruin everyone...
Read moreYou've heard of cheap-eats? Well, their matinee prices are cheap, cheap, cheapie! From time to time, they show pretty good movies here, but most movie selections are usually geared toward the little crumb-snatchers or tweens. The smaller theaters are really, really small. The chairs are comfortable and tilt back a bit. I find myself wondering why the largest theater seats 500 and is never sold out. The larger theater plays foreign movies (at a hefty price). I saw two foreign films here. They are romantic comedy-type movies and worthy of 4-stars. The larger theater also offers classical have a symphony orchestra that performs several times per year. Also, the larger theater offers classic black and white movies, from time to time. Also, the symphony orchestra performs in the larger theater. Beautiful classical concerts (reasonably priced tickets too).
If you go here for a Saturday/Sunday matinee show be sure to sit away from the blue-haired crowd. These senior citizens can get very, very chatty and oftentimes loud (during the movie too). We are not interested in hearing about your knee or hip replacement surgery -- we don't care! I don't know what is more annoying -- a bunch of seniors who cannot be quiet or people who text throughout the entire movie!
This theatre is located in charming downtown Park Ridge just off Touhy and Northwest Highway. It is also walking distance to the Metra train station. There is a FREE parking lot which you can enter off of Northwest Highway or a side street behind the theater (or even the side street by the Starbuck's and across the street from Panera Bread). This parking lot fills up quickly. However, if it is full, you can park for FREE at the Metra parking spots (on weekends only). The staff is always friendly (usually college kids or high school seniors selling tickets, popcorn, candy and refreshments). We enjoy going here for several reasons (1) It is inexpensive (2) there is ample FREE parking nearby (3) it is very easy to reach via the Metra, (4) there are many really good restaurant selections nearby (5) popcorn is always fresh (6) the washroom is always clean. My review is based on going here more...
Read moreJust went to see a movie. Second time you’ve messed up guys. First time. I go to see an opening weekend movie in the main theater only to find out an event is happening there, and they are shut down. There was no notification on Facebook, social media, fandango, or any other media. Thanks for making me waste gas. Pathetic.
Second time. Having been disappointed the first time, I decide to go see another opening weekend movie, and give you guys another shot. This time a movie is actually playing in the main theater. However, to my chagrin there’s nothing but children there for a PG-13 movie. They ruined the whole film. They were playing music, cartoon noises, and sheeshing for two whole hours. I tried looking for a manager; it’s a minor. All the managers were under the age of 18. Your managers tried their hardest, but Pickwick how do you think a bunch of minors can control a bunch of kids. Also, last time I checked there’s a curfew where kids have to be with adults. To say I’m disappointed is an...
