I had stayed here for 3 days for my hiking in Manitou Incline, Pike Forrest, Red rock canyon, and exploration of nearby scenic spots of Pike’s Peak 19-mile drive and Garden of the gods. This is quite a convenient stay as it is within 5-15 minute drive to all of the above mentioned. If you plan for checking as many known Manitou Springs scenes within few days, this lodge definitely serves as a solid home base.
The city bus 36 stop is right across the street within 3 min of walk. I recommend taking it to go to downtown Manitou as parking there is quite a pain. However it will not start until 9:50 am. If you plan for an early Incline hike, parking at Hiawatha and ride on bus 33 would be more ideal. Otherwise taking 36 then transfer 33 to the Incline should be the least expensive option.
FYI after September 1, 2023 the city buses will not be free, but it is still more economical and less hassle to avoid downtown parking.
This hotel facilities are a bit outdated, but the staff have gone beyond to accommodate and help with any requests. The room is spacious, organized and clean.
My only recommendation for the management is to clean or replace the shower curtain, as it has a noticeable damp smell, and if possible, put a mandatory quiet time after 9-10pm. During my stay, I noticed the walls are not sound proof. I could hear when anyone shut the doors constantly or play louder TV next door. Luckily everyone happened to quiet down to follow very early schedules in the three days. I can’t imagine a time when there is black sheep who party late or forget to turn off loud TV.
The breakfast is warm hearted with a super friendly lady who greets everyone with smiles. You have to try the banana bread, or pumpkin bread in later October! The lady told me it is freshly baked by the manager’s mom, who is a retired chef. I enjoyed 3 pieces banana bread even though I don’t have sweet teeth. They are delicious and I will remember it as great travel food memory for...
Read moreI'm a traveler by interest, and I wanted a place to stay that was reasonably priced, clean and very close to Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. This was the place! The pool was the perfect temperature (not cold) and they have a hot tub as well which was very enjoyable and relaxing for the muscles after a day's worth of hiking. They have a big selection of breakfast foods, they provide you with a mini coffee machine in your room as well as 3 or 4 coffee urns in the lobby 24/7. The lobby also has complimentary cucumber water for the guests 24/7 as well, which was a nice touch. The room, pool and breakfast/dining area was very clean all 4 nights I stayed. The dining area attendant constantly cleaned the tables, working very hard and was also a sweetheart. I had the pleasure of talking with almost every staff member and all of them were very helpful, friendly and understanding with any or most questions or concerns. This hotel also provides many pamphlets of the area which were very informative and helpful about fun things to do in the area. As far as the beds and pillows go, they were comfortable enough for satisfaction. I stayed here around the time of Halloween and I loved the decorations in the lobby and dining area. Very cool. The only thing that I would think has to be improved is is that I had some trouble with the coffee machine in my room as I had some spills and I think an instruction note or manual would have been helpful. (But it was possible I didn't see it and it was there). Other than that, I recommend this hotel and will come back if I ever visit the Manitou and Colorado Springs area! Thank you...
Read moreMisleading marketing, but friendly staff and a decent breakfast make up for some of it. So let's start with the bad - you can get a basic room, pay a bit more for a room with a "view", or pay even more for a room with a view and a "balcony". If you look at the photos I uploaded, the view is of the parking lot and the main strip. A little asking around confirmed that "view" simply guarantees a second floor room. Rooms on the other side overlook a different street. The balcony, as one of the other photos shows is some railing preventing you from falling from a narrow concrete ledge. I'd suggest saving your money unless you "must" have a second floor room. The "accessible" bathroom has a single bar grip, a very cheap (and not hand held) shower attachment, and the water pressure is a bit lacking.
One other point to note, there is another Magnuson Hotel just a few blocks further west on the same street. Be careful you're at the right one!
As for the good - staff is friendly, and the continental breakfast does include two hot items - cheese omelettes and sausages. Something many hotels no longer include in their free breakfast. Was slightly miffed that the yougurt selection had many flavors, but all Activia (which may speak to their expected clientele).
Overall, not a bad place to spend the night, but nothing really special or...
