Festival Park holds a great deal of history about how English first arrived to Roanoke Island. There is a representation of the Elizabeth II sailing ship that the colonist came over from England on. Part of the tour you can board this ship and see what it was like back in the day by dressed up historians. There is an interactive historical museum, a settlers site with historians dressed in the time period showing examples of what life was like back then, and beautiful walking trails around the small islands. The staff member behind the counter was very nice and helpful and the air conditioning was perfect for me. Not freezing, but just right. Being October, some local venues still have their air conditioners cranked on full blast,b ice cold, which can feel refreshing in the sweltering heat of July.
