Festival Park holds a great deal of history about how English first arrived to Roanoke Island. There is a representation of the Elizabeth II sailing ship that the colonist came over from England on. Part of the tour you can board this ship and see what it was like back in the day by dressed up historians. There is an interactive historical museum, a settlers site with historians dressed in the time period showing examples of what life was like back then, and beautiful walking trails around the small islands. There is also a small amphitheater that has regular shows throughout he tourist seasons (warm weather). It hosts our county's fireworks display every Fourth of July as well. It's a must see especially if your new to the outer banks.

What an amazing place. Great history and live actors that explained how life was from the settlers point of view. They also showed how the American Indian people lived. We had a great chat with an absolute legend that showed how the wood carving was done and he even let my kids have a go. They have a shop that is manned by historical actors as well. If your around that way stop and learn something!

I never thought I would ever give a review of a visitor center, but this one is really nice. The staff member behind the counter was very nice and helpful and the air conditioning was perfect for me. Not freezing, but just right. Being October, some local venues still have their air conditioners cranked on full blast,b ice cold, which can feel refreshing in the sweltering heat of July. But in the cooler weather of October, it's nice to walk into a place where the temperature inside feels just right and comfortable. This visitor center was also immaculate and has an efficient,...
