This is my 1st visit, but my daughters family love it here, I think the side salad was fresh and tasty, my sandwich the roast beef with Au'ju.. was hot and tasty. My daughters favorite the Godfather ' had great fillings, and roll delicious, there is' great fresh cookies.. price is comparable to other Deli's and meat obviously better quality. The gentleman waiting on me upfront was a tad disinterested, preoccupied maybe, and I did feel rushed to get my called in" order after I arrived, pay and hurry out. But I'm sure I'll visit again, for the baked items looked tasty.. not a busy time but maybe feel more comfortable to pop in next time with my daughter who frequents the deli often and perhaps is why her customer service was much better than my visit. I'd give this visit a 5 only for the food, but customer service with the gentleman was lacking and would be a barely 3, and no I'm not a visitor but a local who definitely believes in supporting my locally owned restaurants, but get another one to work the counter, for it is not a welcome I appreciate after paying more and tipping better.. thanks"". ** 10/2020 This is my 1st time since the Covid began that I have ordered here, I actually called in person to the restaurant, not using the online site, it was a different experience than my last, ( though I have had food purchased here that was good) but as for my experience with the young lady that assisted me, I was impressed with her courtesy, helpfulness, her ability to take my order with no attitude as I've experienced a couple times with a gentleman in the past, on top of that, the food was cooked exactly as I requested, with no issues or attitude, 5 stars for that alone.. when I picked up my order inside, she was pleasant but efficient and even with my added additional drinks added had no issue and after getting to the house to eat with my daughter & granddaughter... they were happy with the taste, but even better I was happy..I got the prime rib au'ju sub and it tasted awesome, the last time I had one, it wasn't done as requested, this time it was, the meat was delicious, the Au'ju a tasty addition and on the side as I requested, ( which kept it from being soggy before eating) thank you.. and to the employee a sweet helpful young lady, thank you for your great customer service.. you need to keep her at the counter. I would most definitely say the price, ( which in all honesty may seem a bit more than I would usually pay, but this time was not the case) they are abiding by the 6ft. And wearing a mask, which as a chronically ill heart patient is much appreciated..I look forward to my next treat.. and say 5stars all the way.. keep up the great food " UPDATE 7/2021 great food, French Dip is so awesome, soft hoagie roll, auju is good enough to drink straight, I have seen the customer service over past couple years improve with the sweet and helpful young ladies at the counter, as a customer going thru major health issues, they have went above & beyond to exceed my expectations, and I can eat there food and really enjoy it even though I have issues with my diet, this is a treat every time I eat here now.. highly recommend, no its not fried or French fries on the menu, its what it's called, a Delli" but the best I know on the entire Outer Banks..so check it out you won't be disappointed..and it's worth the drive from the beach to the Quant...

The Hungry Pelican is recently relocated to the historic district of Manteo, in I was told a much better location and then before. Parking is on the street but was not hard to find a spot close to the restaurant. Coming in are picnic tables and a cute sign with a pelican eating a sandwich. The shop is nice and clean and decorated beautifully. My boys of course had to use the restroom and I swear that is the cleaning and prettiest bathroom I have ever needed to use. Our sandwiches were ordered at the counter by a nice courteous girl who was patient with our young ones picking out what they wanted. Kids meals come with apple sauce and scooby snacks and a drink. They are reasonably priced under $6.00. My wife and I quickly picked out sandwiches and took a seat in the dining room which was also clean, comfortable and well decorated. Drinks are fountain style serve yourself and free refills. Our food came out quickly and was fresh and delicious. We ate and left planning to come back for their wide selection of ice cream. After walking around the nice shops there we came back and ordered ice cream. Kids size $1.50. Wow what a deal! Single scoop under $3.00.(Really three big scoops) They had a nice selection of fresh baked goods from a local bakery including brownies, muffins and coffee cake which my wife had. Only dessert for 4 on vacation under $20.00. Our bill was not even $9.00. We took our desert outside and sat at the picnic table and had a nice conversation with two young ladies whose family owns the resturant. My oldest must have been smitten by them and couldn't stop showing off to impress them. He is only 6. We will be back at least once more this trip. This place is awesome!! We will be back again this vacation and definitely more...

This is a deli where the locals eat. I shouldn't have to say more than that to recommend it, but I will. Very tasty unusual sandwiches and homemade desserts. Yum. Double yum. I had the Angry Bird - mesquite turkey with bacon and raspberry chipotle sauce on grilled artisanal cornbread with pepper jack cheese. Just exactly the right amount of tasty and spicy. I would imagine their other offerings to be equally good; they have a traditional-sounding Reuben, French Dip, an Italian Hoagie, and for you vegans out there two meatless sandwiches that sound good even to me. It makes me want to be a local so I can eat there more often. Other offerings include salads, hot dogs, and in my gustatory haze I think I remember seeing a chalkboard with a soup of the day. The atmosphere is casual and cool and of course the staff really makes your day (I told you I'd say that, so you're welcome). Seriously, nice folks and helpful with menu choices and local info. Parking is on-street or municipal lot, but not an issue. Won't hurt your travel budget; less than $20 for two of us including dessert. If you're in Manteo, see the first...
