6/2024 came in to grab lunch to go.. was so disappointed.. fries which always are my favorite we're cold and soggy, my crab cake sandwich which I've eaten here before and was great was not good today, it was hard and tasted off? The BLT was cold and bacon inedible, the only thing that came out good was the pork bbq sandwich.. not sure if the crowds threw them in a mess but I'll wait til the crowd's go away to return because after I spend $60 bucks I expect my food hot and fresh.. hate to write this but I hope next time will be as good as it has been in the past. UPDATE,1/2021 Poor Richards sandwich shop is still the bomb" they closed last by 4. So if you need your fix, get in there.. I wanted to take a picture of my latest dining experience, but I ate it all to quickly, of course the chicken philly was still good as always, the Italian looked good, and I was told it tasted just as good, I ordered fries with both of them and they always taste so good, I eat them always before I can get home, the club hoagie looked yum, but had ordered potato salad and when it was opened there was cucumber salad, ( which are delicious too) so, though my son was disappointed he didnt mind to much with the cucumber substitute.. my big thing was I tried for the 1st time Poor Richards, Potato soup with cheese, talk about great, I wish now had gotten a bowl instead of cup size..but I will keep my eye out when it is offered again, for I believe it was the soup of the day, btw" staff keep up the great job.... keep up the great job.. this local customer is loyal and loves your food!.* 3/2023 "I love this place, the sandwiches are awesome, I am a creature of habit and usually get the chicken philly with mushrooms, delicious, my daughter loves the Italian sandwich which is tasty as well. The specials change daily, I have tried there barbecue sandwich, yum" I've tried the chicken & dumplings, it had to much chicken and not enough dumpling or as those from Hatteras Island call it, " piebread " but was still tasty. .. the french fries are awesome, crunchy and tasty, I like to dip in there Ranch dressing over ketchup, the staff working are definitely on the go nonstop til they close but are always friendly and courteous, sweet tea is " real sweet tea" unlike some places, and if you are a true southerner, you know what I'm talking about.. I'd highly recommend eating in, or on the go, call it in or go on to their website and order to go, which I'm sure is convenient for those on a quick lunch . Looking forward to stopping in soon. Thank you to all who make this place a great place to eat a delicious meal. ( BTW: the cucumbers, tomatoe & onions with vinegar side.. is like grandma's, taste great, so try it if your hankering your favorite...

My husband and I decided to eat at Poor Richard's after the other place we had planned to eat had already closed for the evening. I chose this place because of the late hours as well as the excellent reviews. I was not disappointed and in fact of the 10 restaurants we ate at during our weeklong stay in Nags Head, this was my second favorite!

It's a tiny unassuming place in Manteo, which is such a pretty little town. We arrived too late to be seated in the actual restaurant, but were warmly welcomed into the bar area which had a few tables. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and my husband ordered the club sandwich and fries. Their sweet tea was the best I had during our entire stay! My burger was fantastic, but I took a bite of my husband's club sandwich (ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo) and WOW it blew me away! Such a simple thing - you wouldn't think it would be so amazing but it absolutely was! I liked it so much that my husband and I ended up going halvsies.

After we ate we walked around the waterfront and it was so lovely, such a pretty night. There was a guy who was clearly drunk inside the bar and he was outside when we came out. He said a curse word but he wasn't being mean, he was joking though I forget what he said. No fault of Poor Richard's but I do want to mention it in case you plan to go here with small children late in the evening (we were there around 9:30-10pm). It was just my husband and I so no big deal to us. I liked this place so much that I considered going back before we left but we wanted to try new places so we didn't. I will 100% be going again on our next visit and would recommend this highly to anyone for a low cost but fantastic meal and a truly lovely evening...

We visited Manteo for a concert. We took the day after the concert to have lunch and explore the area. We picked this establishment for lunch based on online reviews. It came highly recommended and rightly so. Each member of our party thoroughly enjoyed our respective meals. I had the crabcake sandwich. I love all seafood! The sandwich was massive and tons of crabmeat! But I must say, my husband and friend ordered a special they had, dill pickled chicken sandwich I believe. It was the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. So much flavor and the breading on the chicken was super crispy. So much flavor in one sandwich. I was very surprised that I actually preferred that sandwich to my crabcake sandwich. I also posted here a picture of the fountain drink machine. I was so extremely pleased to see they had a separate fountain tap for just water. So many places have the water with the lemonade etc. You have to run the water to avoid having the main drink flavor come through. I only drink water and when the hint of flavor from other drinks comes through. You just can't imagine how happy this small feature made me. Also it felt the need to mention the bathroom. The paper towels provided in the dispenser were the best quality I have ever used in a public establishment. They were so thick it almost felt like cloth. And you only needed one to actually dry your hands. Seems like a funny thing to notice but if you ever use them you will understand. As I walked out I mentioned it to my friend and she said the exact same thing. I would highly recommend this establishment if you are in the area. Even worth traveling to Manteo to give it try. We ate on the deck on the water front. Had a great breeze and a beautiful view for a our...

Poor Richard's Sandwich Shop: where getting a seat is like winning the lottery, but with better odds. As soon as the doors open, the place fills up faster than a coffee shop on free espresso day. Inside seating is limited, so unless you enjoy dining while hovering like a hawk, plan on taking your sandwich to go. Service? Decent enough. The staff won't write your name in the stars, but they'll get your order right and even throw in a smile. Now, the food—above average, with the Cuban Ruben stealing the show. This sandwich isn't just a must; it's the culinary equivalent of discovering a hidden treasure. Every bite of that Ruben is like a mini vacation to flavor town, with tender pork and tangy pickles making sweet, savory music together. So, if you can elbow your way in and snag a spot, or don’t mind a gourmet picnic, Poor Richard's is definitely worth the hustle. Just remember to bring your A-game and maybe some elbow pads.
