TL;DR I had my fans replaced for $299 and I think at most it was worth $200. Corporate office and stores are not on the same page regarding policy or pricing.
Had my fans replaced on an Alienware laptop. Initial eval fee $59, fans $35, labor $90. All that seemed pretty fair. But the 1 year of “complimentary service” that they FORCE you into and do not explicitly explain at any point seems to costs another $60 and will auto renew for $20 a month unless you explicitly tell them to cancel it, AND you can’t opt out of it until the month before it’s set to renew, meaning hopefully you remember a year from now to cancel it. I’m blown away by how corrupt this policy is, and the actual store you’re working with can’t do anything about it because, “it’s at the corporate level.” EDIT: I called to get a better understanding of my bill, as I had charges for $59 (initial eval) and after picking up the laptop today, two more of $38 (fans) and a final for $239. Basically what I was told is any service you bring it in for that’s less than $299 will ultimately cost the $299, which includes this 1 year of service you cannot opt out of. I believe it should be made clear when you walk in that $299 is 99% of the time the least you can pay for anything that needs to be done. Apparently corporate implemented this policy 2 years ago and I’m a bit shocked more people aren’t complaining about the fact that you can’t opt out, and it seems to be an excuse to inflate the price of anything you’d need done regardless of if it’s worth $299 all said and done. I know Alienware fans, particularly on my model aren’t easy to replace, but I think $200 is the very most I’d say is worth the work they did including the fans. I changed to 2 stars because the actual work was good (fans work) and service at the store was good. It’s the corporate policy that seems corrupt to me. EDIT 2: Corporate office called immediately after review was posted. They negated both of the main things the store told me: that anything less than $299 will likely be $299 and that you CAN turn off auto renew on the 1-year service coverage they force you into. Not changing my review as I stand by the work they did being AT MOST worth $200 and the conflicting info and invoicing format are both...
Read moreThis adds to the negative review from Jeremy above. First off they don't get hardly any business in Maricopa because they over charge, wipe your computer clean and with our consent they install ad blockers and other variations of programs that they"highly recommend" to make your computer not work properly. We took our tower in bc it was obviously not working correctly and they said that they would fix it no worries. We waited a few days went in and paid them .. they began to race over programs the claim to have trusted and have never heard of one complaint about our service or programs that we use. The guy that helped us could not stop bragging about how many computers and game systems he had and showed pictures and all his setups He further went into more details about his games and such .. We took our tower home and from the get go have had nothing but issues and when we would call to see if they could help they would immediately jump to how they have never heard of anything like that happening before Today's call was about the fact that before taking our computer on, we never had issues with downloading anything and saving it and being able to see the previews or pictures, and we were getting orange cones as icons.. I was told that he had never heard of this before and I said interesting enough this comes from a vlc they installed in our computer which we were never told about that was installed.... They wiped out computer clean and claimed they could not recover anything bc it was not recoverable but before we took it in, we were able to get into all sorts of our documents They told us to get a hold of someone t be able to recover the data they removed Furthermore they did not ask nor disclose all the extra programs that they installed after we got the work done. They sure like to use the words never heard that before we have installed these in 100's of computers and never heard of this. .. Could it be because once a customer does find out they never go back to them again?!? Very disappointed in the overall experience and irritating to know that all they seem to say is bring it in and gladly (charge you) again to fix something (they did).. NEVER...
Read moreWife's laptop was running slow. Brought it in and the guy played with it for ten minutes while I stood there. He said "no virus" but "there's a bunch of extra processes running, Needed some cleanup. They charged $60 just to look at it, (again) but no fixing... even though they knew what was wrong in ten minutes. Two days later they called and Jim went into a five minute monologue sales pitch for their $250 service, total care, etc, never worry again etc. I said no, just wanted the cleanup and kill all of the extra stuff running that I don't need. He quoted another $150 for that service. I said "that's too much, you could have done that for the $60!" Nope $60 just to open it (again) in the back room. Went to the store to pick it up and the guy just shrugged his shoulders and smiled. These guys know exactly what they are dong, -taking full advantage of peoples computer ignorance- and making a killing on it...Full price for even small problems.. In my book this is hi-way robbery, taking advantage of people. Especially the "total care-forever" business model which adds up to over $350/yr. I went home, ran a couple of searches on the internet like "win 7 running slow" and "win 7 too many processes running". There's U-Tube videos and even the Microsoft website shows what to do step by step. Find another place, this isn't rocket...
