My family was at Deep Creek Lake for a family reunion. We (20 people, including young kids) partially came to Funland after seeing that their website offered daypasses and group rates. We arrived and asked about both just to be told that they didn't offer them. We said that their website stated that they did and were told unapologetically "well, we don't have either."
Ok, so this trip just got a LOT more expensive. Oh well. We're already here. The kids are bouncing off the walls and just want to GO. We bought the tickets and the kids had fun. The go-karts are just OK, and we didn't know before buying the tickets that the carousel only runs every 1/2 hour.
What really bugged us was that our kids ended up fighting over a prize when we got home. We saw a sign posted on the ticket machine saying "8 tickets for $.25, etc." Specifically, my youngest is on the spectrum and really got attached to the toy and the winner was bummed. My husband drove all the way back to Funland to just buy the 150 tickets according to the sign and get the toy to make peace.
But, when he got thete, he was told, "No, you can't buy tickets or prizes." He pointed out the clearly posted sign IN the arcade and the staff, again, unapologetically said "that's not actually the policy." Then, why is it posted?! He asked for an exception considering that he drove all the way back on the basis of THEIR posted sign and they again said no. This is completely ridiculous. Funland should honor their posted policies. Not wanting to make a huge scene when many other kids were waiting to redeem prizes, my husband left. We won't be back on this trip or any others that we make to...
Read morePurely reviewing the arcade portion. A couple games had issues dispensing tickets. My child one a mystery ticket amount on one, yet nothing came out, and then another 30 tickets with nothing coming out. I informed the staff, but aside from checking the machine had tickets, they didn’t do anything else. They left the game running to waste other people’s money too.
I’m estimated we had around 400+ tickets yet the counter machine bugged out and stopped counting after 150 tickets. I informed the staff and they said we can just consider it 350 tickets even (I’m certain we had more, especially considering the previous machine not dispensing. I appreciated the staff briefly meeting me halfway on the ticket counting issue, but they also left that ticket counter open, likely resulting in the same bug happening to other guests.
The prizes were some of the most costly junk I’ve ever seen at any arcade. I get you’re there more for the experience. But $30 netted us a couple .25 cent plastic trinkets and kids being upset over the ticket issues.
I hope the management can see this and train the staff to be a bit more proactive and close off machines not producing tickets/ not accurately...
Read moreWe had a fantastic time at Deep Creek Funland! The mini golf course was a standout — beautifully landscaped, well-maintained, and just the right level of challenge to keep things fun without being frustrating. The features all worked perfectly, and it’s clear that a lot of care goes into keeping the course in top shape.
Honestly, the online photos don’t do it justice — it’s even better in person. You can tell this place is run by someone who genuinely cares about the customer experience.
The arcade was another highlight. All the games were up and running, and the ticket payouts were generous, which made it even more exciting. The staff was friendly and helpful, adding to the...
