Wife and I were leaving after a few days getaway to a cozy Airbnb. We had never been to this area before, but found it naturally beautiful, charming, and friendly. I chose Canoe On the Run because of reviews. It was a cold snowy morning, and I wasn't sure it was open, but thankfully it was. I think I was the first customer that day. The tall gentleman serving me didn't seem too happy to be there. But, he was courteous, and proceeded to make me a breakfast ciabatta with bacon. I felt bad because it looked like a bad day for business, so I ordered a hot chocolate, and decided to get my lunch on the road sandwich from him too. The menu has good stuff. I got the turkey and Gouda sandwich, and I couldn't resist the pecan shortbread bar. The breakfast sandwich was a top best 3 I've ever had. The hot chocolate was hand crafted, and the best I've ever had. The turkey sandwich was fresh tasty high quality goodness. The pecan bar thing was insanely yummy. Whoever you were, thank you for the joy you provided to our foodie hearts. I wish I wasn't 6+ hours away, I'd visit this place...
Read moreI had driven three hours one way to get two of my foster cats fixed and while I waited I decided to visit a local coffee spot. The ambiance from the photos was very kitchy and very cute, upon getting there and going in it was vastly different. The only reason I'm even giving two starts is because the food and drinks were absolutely phenomenal. However the service was incredibly disorganized, slow and stand offish. Out of the three or four people who were working, one was making the coffee and taking the orders, the other two to three individuals were either standing around, wiping down the counters or just trying to tell the girl making the coffee that she needed to also take the orders, when there were about 7 of us waiting to even have our orders taken. I don't know if it's just how the people are in this area of Maryland but I have never been treated as poorly as I was at this establishment anywhere else I"ve gone...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed in Deep Creek recently and ate here two times. The food and atmosphere were great. However, the second day my wife ordered oatmeal with half-n-half. They provided her with soy milk, which she cannot eat. She took it back up to the counter to have them correct the issue. At first they didn't see it as an issue, then asked if she can just eat it anyway (she had already poured the soy milk into it not knowing it wasn't halfnhalf). She said no, but she would wait for a new one. They then started to try to charge her for a new order, which she refused to do since she had already paid for one order and the mistake was on their end. At this point she was tired of arguing with them and just asked for a refund, which the manager finally gave her after more bickering. Perhaps this was an anomaly, but I would generally expect better customer service from...
