I found myself without a place to stay in Maui do you to a scam. I just happened to pull in to Aloha Cottages and the 92-year-old woman who runs the place is the most sweetest and beautiful woman I’ve ever met. She gave me the bottom cottage for $75 a night since it was just me and allowed me to use it for five nights. The place was a little out of date but for that price and the view from my place to the ocean and the fact that I would be able to drive around Hana and visit all of the interesting places there that One sees when they are looking to stay in HI. I didn’t think much of the linens but they were clean just had spots on them just like any white sheets that you might have at your own home and don’t purchase them new every time your kids sleep on them and spill their grape juice or whatever. I would have loved to have had Wi-Fi however the neighbors will allow you to use their guest Wi-Fi for like five dollars a day. There is a young boy that was kind of ANSI and bold but I had to put him in his place he lived two houses down from the cottage and allowed me to hook up to his Wi-Fi. But the better option is to do what I did and I just used my phone as a hotspot and are used or changed while I was there so I could get the best reception to Verizon. I could not hardly get any reception with Sprint. But the only time I really watched TV was to watch a movie at night time maybe to go to sleep and I honestly had 100 movies on a hard drive I brought with me so that really was no problem. I stayed very busy the five days I was there driving around and going to different beaches Blacksand beach red sand beach along with the orchid plantation to different botanical gardens and on Thanksgiving day they had a big luau type festival for locals and tourists alike. So this place made my trip worth everything despite everything that did go wrong had I not found these cottages and met the lady Mrs. Bettahanta Sp? something I can’t spell her.|This lady is 92 years old and is the most beautiful youngest looking 92-year-old I have seen in my life and she was very very sweet and kind. She made sure that I was comfortable and she has a lady that comes and does laundry and cleans up the rooms and so forth when people leave that you can get new linens if you want. I don’t recall a telephone but who needed that because you have your cell phones. The only real flaw was that I was alone and I really wish I could have had a few friends there with me because the place I stayed in had four cots but could have easily had three or four more put in there. It had a microwave and a refrigerator it had plates forks knives. Everything you would need to cook your meals if you wanted to or cook out side it had a grill. I made friends with the local couple staying in The upstairs portion of this condo I was in the downstairs portion. If you had a problem with the linens you could have done them yourself the lady who was cleaning out the other cottage that people had left, when I approached her about doing some of my laundry and where I could get it done, she happily did the few items that I had and even left them for me folded in my room. This is not a fancy place so don’t expect anything more than being able to have a place to sleep, cook, eat and go to the bathroom it did have a private bathroom w/shower in my unit. It did not look like some of the places that I saw that were termite infested and should have been condemned, or the $500-$1000 per night hotels that were to the left and right of this wonderful little gems. I did go to the restaurant at the hotel up the street that was quite expensive but it was absolutely wonderful food. The only thing is that I had the experience and could use even their pools because they didn’t hound you about having a wristbands or whatever if you wanted to use their pool, but really I stayed on the beach most of the time or was visiting nearby various Hana locations. If you decide to drive to Hana make sure if you get off at the airport down in Lahaina that you drive it during the daytime. It is a very cautious and slow drive due to all the curves and waterfalls and people that stop along the way and get in the waterfalls and take pictures and even walk back to the places where you can jump off the canyons into the water and swim etc. when I drove it at night I had already driven it twice during the day so I was more prepared and able to actually drive up there at night. But my drive up there the first time because everything from Lahaina to Hana was so beautiful every plant and tropical plant you’ve ever seen in the grocery store or even in pictures or you possibly even have one at your home you will see on the side of the road driving from Lahaina airport to Aloha Cottages. That is something you cannot and must not miss. There is an airport on the other side somewhere but I never took it due to the fact my rental car had to be turned in down at the airport in Lahaina. I would have stayed my whole trip there had I not had friends and hallelujah that I wanted to visit and I had planned to visit the other three islands but I never got to do so, basically because I stayed here for five days that I had not planned. If you want to have a very inexpensive stay in a wonderful area and a beautiful drive as well as getting those pictures of all of the waterfalls and all of the oceans below the canyons and then you will want to drive from the airport to Hana during the day of course on your first run. I’m not sure what is on the other side coming from the other airport down to Hannah I’m sure there’s more of the same and possibly even more beautiful than where I was but that is just my opinion. I will post some pictures here of my drive up to Hana. I was charged only $75 a night due to me being the only one in the cottage however I do know that the people next to me had four or five people and they said they paid $130 a night which is what I was paying at a hotel down in Lahaina. So, you cannot beat the price per person that she charges and pets are allowed and as far as breakfast you have your choice of a couple of local supermarkets that even take EBT cards and you can purchase your eggs and whatever else you want to cook in the stove that is in the unit or in the microwave and the standard size refrigerator/freezer will hold as much food as needed for your stay. If you need any other of items that’s not already there in the rooms all you have to do is find the lady who cleans every day and ask her and she will make sure you get it ASAP. I personally wanted to talk to the lady who was runner of these cottages more about her life there in Hawaii because I could not believe a 92-year-old woman that looks 75 was who she was. And if you want new linens then go buy them there are shops in Lahaina that you can buy for the cats twin size is all you need of course and there is also a company called Nana Enterprises that will bring you extra cards if you need so you could actually order in my downstairs unit two extra carts to make two queen size beds that would fit in there easily and then there’s a wall partition and behind it is another queen size or two twin size cots that are together. There was a couch table and chairs and there actually may have been a television I really don’t remember because I wasn’t interested and that I was able to watch everything off of my computer screen and iPad or even my phone. If you plan on staying here and making it a place that you can leave your things that and go to the other islands back-and-forth type of things than I’m sure that she would not charge you anything to leave your suitcases in any type of storage area she has and would be happy to allow that to happen instead of having to ren storage compartment. If you are going with another couple and they might want to stay there while you and somebody else might want to visit another island for a couple of days or even just for that day it is a great place to be able to know that you’ve got and can come back to and your friends can stay there as well and because of the price it doesn’t make a difference if that makes any sense. And you really have all the amenities of a fancy place because of all the fancy places are up the hill right next to it or down the hill closer on the beach and you can use their pools, beaches restaurants etc. they all kind of work together there and at least with aloha cottages I found out. I figured it was probably because this woman might at one time owned part or all of the properties that these hotels now are built on and she probably sold it to them. Although I could be wrong but after you speak with this woman and you realize that she is 92 and she lives in a beautiful house up the hill and then down below she has these two beautiful cottages that have both an upstairs and a downstairs and even two different sides. I know the one I stayed in had another door that was locked coming into my bathroom so I wasn’t sure if that was just another room it was too big of an area in relation to the outside to be just a closet. So it probably was another room that could probably house or sleep four or six more people. I highly recommend this place for solos, couples and large groups who want to stay in Hawaii for short or long term stays and hope that you can book with her your entire stay because she has people that continually keep coming back every year and in that time of year she doesn’t have the availability and you may have to move from one Condo To the another. And again if you need more clots that she does not have available then take it vantage of the local type/baby items cribs high chairs and a variety of other items you might could use from Nana Enterprises his name is John. He lives in Kieaah, HI which is directly on the other side of the island and might be a little more pricey for him to deliver it to you unless you wanted to bring your rental car and could fit whatever it is you need into it. But if you had a group of 20 or so people and needed to have eight more cots then he is the guy to rent from. And I don’t know about the right cottage but if it is built like the left cottage I know the upstairs is a two bedroom and large living room. The downstairs like I said just the part I was in could have slept 8 people comfortably. And if you moved the couch a different direction of put two more Cots where the couch is or just in front of the couch and didn’t use it at all would have needed six more cots. I don’t recall seeing any closets and that was one thing I did mess there were two end tables on either side of the carts I believe they may have had drawers to them but I’m not real sure because I didn’t use them. It could have been that the door in the bathroom that was locked contained closet space or Extra Space or a whole Nother bedroom I don’t know because I didn’t ever see what was in that spot. But I suspect that it is also a two bedroom like the one upstairs. The upstairs to my condo was a two bedroom and again I don’t recall because I didn’t go through the condo how many places there were for storage of clothing so you might end up having to put your suitcases either under your cards just kind of live out of your suitcase or if that other room is a storage area for her stuff then she I’m sure would allow you to use it as space to put your suitcases and clothing that needed...

Read moreApril 2018 - The owner of this place is a very nice older woman she had the only available room when no one else did. We discovered that was because the place itself is not very nice. It's in the center of town and allows for easy beach and park access and not in the depths of the jungle. The place wasn't clean there were little red dots of "dust" on the outlet covers. The towels were clearly cleaned and hung to dry resulting in a crusty sandpaper feel. The top blanket of the bed clothes appeared to be clean, they were old but the sheets themselves we never actually slept on. The couch was covered with a stained sheet and the dishes were filthy and you didn't want to put anything in the fridge. We brought in our cooler, left for a bit and came back to find a giant cockroach (those dots were eggs BTW) hiding between the outlet and wall. After dancing around I was finally able to kill it but that was the last straw we left at 845pm that night. She gave us 1/3 of our money for the time we "stayed" (we were in the room a total of 30min and stayed away as long as we could out in town) and told us that roaches were a natural part of the jungle. Which makes sense, if we were still in the jungle. There are multiple beds in the unit, a shower and a kitchen. If it's between staying in a tent or a cabin, this would be a small step up from being on the ground but I couldn't sleep comfortably knowing there were roaches in a place that was indoors. This could be a $500/night room if she hired someone to do some up keep to the unit, buy new bed clothes, clean the units and spray the area inside and outside to keep pests away (outside was also covered with ants, which I could deal with). Hopefully she reads this and takes that advice, I would love for her to thrive in her location which would be very possible with putting some time and effort back into it.
So if you're looking for a place slightly better than a tent - go here, if you want to feel clean and comfortable book somewhere else...
