Hasegawa General store is a true Hana town icon and a MUST visit when coming to Hana. At Hasegawa`s youĘťll find just about everything! From fishing gear, pipes for home improvements and standard grocery items this store has EVERYTHING. If youĘťre a visitor, please note that Hana town has 2 grocery stores for shopping. Please check open and closing times to ensure that you and your family have the necessities for food and comfort if you plan to spend the night here. The store as I remember it, used to be where the ono farms stand and chow wagon are located. The stores location was burned down in the early 90Ęťs. and since have relocated to where they are today. If youĘťre a first timer to the quiet town of Hana, I encourage you to purchase the originally printed "I SURVIVED THE ROAD TO HANA" t-shirt as a token and certificate of driving the road. They also have a variety of other shirts in different styles that highlight Hawaii and Hana. The staff are friendly, engaging and are there to help you find what you need. The price for average groceries are sold at a higher cost, so if youĘťre a cigarette smoker, a beer/alcohol drinker I would recommend buying your cigarettes outside of Hana, before making your drive in. As a native of this quaint town, being able to see familiar faces of family is always a warm and welcoming. KudoĘťs to Neil Hasegawa for continuing the legacy of the store for the world to visit and the town of...

This was the highlight of our trip. One day we were leaving Lahaina and taking the long way back to Kihei when a little girl ran out infront of the car with her hands up. She asked us if we wanted any banana bread? We kindly said yes and pulled over. As we pulled over and walked up to the booth we met a woman with a very soft and kind smile on her face. We started to talk and talk and found out that her husband was the late Richard Kealoha Hoopii Sr. Aka Uncle Richard. He had passed away in March of this year. We continued to chat as the time went by and learned about him. We ended up getting 2 things of banana bread, a shaved ice as well as a dvd about Richard and a CD of his and his brothers.
This store has everything you need. From clothing to fishing lures, lightbulbs to ice cream, baseball bats and Hana trucker hats. The store feels like home. Home in a sense that when you come here everything is in place, makes you feel comfortable and doesn't push you through the isles. I guarantee you will find what you're looking for in here! Be sure to grab a "I survived the road to Hana" sticker for when you go home. I will be coming back here the next time...
Read moreIf you lock yourself out of your car and need a long rod to try to stick through the window to jimmy the lock open, come here. Towards the back wall, to the right I found this long rod for sell. Don't know what it was but it was long and bendable. I used it to open my car door when I accidentally locked myself out. I did need help prying the window open but was able to pop the lock open with this rod. I flagged down a really nice police officer but he said he didn't know how to help me. There is only one tow truck that service this side of the island. The officer called the tow truck but they never responded. So life lesson, don't lock yourself out of your car, let alone on the Road to Hana. But if you do and need a long rod, this general store has it. Don't bother asking the tourists in the area if they have a metal coat hanger. ...
