I started taking Adult 1 Skating Academy classes here about 3 months ago. I had never skated before in my life but decided to try after learning about it through the Try Skating For Free program. Learning how to do something new (especially with a high risk of falling) as a 36-year old was incredibly scary! But the amazing instructors, especially Tim and his wife Pauline, immediately help make you feel comfortable and safe. When I first came to the rink I couldn't even stand on the ice but in just a few short months I can forward skate and swizzle (so fun!).
The class takes place in a small section of the rink (other classes are taking place in various areas on the rink). There is a small group of us and we are all at different levels so the instructors give us a move to work on but then are really great about providing some customized attention if you are at a different level than the others. We receive feedback and positive encouragement at every class - we even shake off the falls since they really are no big deal and happen to everyone. Once you have mastered the curriculum they will advance you to the next class. Prices are very reasonable and everyone that works at the rink, as well as the other patrons, are wonderful!
You are never too old to learn something new! If you want to learn to skate this is the place to do it! You will have tons of support and more...
Read moreNice facility, but not a place to bring younger kids to learn to skate. We signed our son up for “beginner skate lessons” in their path to play Hockey. The instructors refused to even help him get onto the ice, hold his hand till her got his balance, nothing! My son left crying because he kept falling and no one would help him. Apparently your kid must know how to skate independently for their BEGINNER kids “learn to skate” class. We were treated horribly by staff. There was no instruction, no coaching. I asked several questions before signing up letting them know that my 4 year old has no experience skating and I was assured that they would help him. When I asked for a refund, there was no apology for our experience and waste of time. The staff acted like it was common that people were dissatisfied with the class. If you’re not willing to help a 4 year old learn to skate, raise the age limit to your classes. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR KIDS TEARS OVER...
Read moreGood place to Skate with kids as it provides bucket for kids to hold on. Price is high compare to the Ice skating center in Allen as Only limited time is provided to public skating(maybe less than 1 hour). Price in Allen is $5 entry fee and $3 shoes rental Total $8/person Here is $10 entry fee and $5 shoes rental Total $15/person If you have big family then the price adds up quickly here. Also, when I ask for class or program online for kids and I was told to check myself online... Why would I ask for it if I can easily find it on the website? Funny... It's painful to choose Allen location over this place as I live in McKinney, but the Allen location just got more kids friendly program and more...
