Was Decent!
The houses themselves are quite well executed! Great scenery with some great scares and dedicated actors, and overall a fun atmosphere! While the music playing was loud, it wasn't uncomfortably so, and that along with the faint screams of guests and yelling of actors really gave the whole place a fitting ambiance. Especially fond of the scenes in The Residence and theme in The Yard! However, the problems began to arise with how its run.
Starting off with the most egregious, the lines. While we didn't have the 2+ hour waits like others since we arrived about 30 minutes before opening time, there were other issues like lines being confusing (hard to tell which line was for each attraction, not helped by the labyrinth of line barriers), it being somewhat hot and uncomfortable, and people straight up skipping and nothing being done about it. Related, as there are so many people going into the houses, they don't space out people as much as they probably should, so since one can see the people in the front getting scared and hear people shuffling behind you, one is mentally prepared for it, thus diminishing the scare. While its understandable since doing so would make the waiting problem worse from so many people coming, it does make everything overall a bit disappointing for those wanting to be scared. Also relating to this is that because there is so little buffer between groups, when a group up front slows down, it affects everyone behind them. This was the worst in the Voodoo Village house in the winding bayou area, where we were getting stopped completely every so often for up to 30 seconds till those up front cleared.
Secondly, the advertisement does stretch the truth a bit. While there are four separate themed haunt areas, they are shorter than a standard haunt, and three of those are rolled up into one house (Slotch Sanitarium, Voodoo Village, The Yard). Wouldn't have a problem with the pricing for what is given, just that the way it is advertised does set one up for more than is offered. And regarding the snacks this year, that is my personal gripe, as there didn't seem to be any themed snacks, and the one themed not exclusively alcoholic drink item only had the alcoholic version available. Despite all this, we still had a fun time! Only wish that some parts were run a bit better, but aside from that, would recommend if one is prepared for the...
Read moreI did not even know this existed in Memphis! What a shame, because it has been around for awhile. Tucked away off Perkins, just south of the 240 loop it sits in what was a huge Toys R Us. As of the time of this review it contains four haunts, one stand alone and the other is a three in one. ALL are fantastic! For $30 you get admission to one haunt but for a mere $5 more you get all four, so why wouldn’t you do that? In fact for $15 more you get VIP line access to all four, which on a busy night would be totally with it! They make a conscious effort to distribute patrons between the two cues so wait time is minimized but of course on a busy night you could wait for a bit if you choose GA. Regardless, these are worth the wait. These are theater quality sets, with well trained acting staff, and professional makeup.
We chose the behind the scenes tour for $70 per ticket which included VIP access to all four haunts, once we finished and the lights went out. I didn’t know what to expect, but Ethan, who is the creative director, gave us our tour and it was also fantastic! We arrived about two hours prior to lights out with the tour start time scheduled to start at around 1.5 hours prior to lights out. Ethan started early and went long! We toured the main haunt and were shown things like how the scare boxes worked, the lighting, how the sets were built, he talked about the mechanics behind the sets, we saw makeup and costuming as the actors were getting ready as well as the workshop. He also walked us through the other three haunts albeit with less detail as opening was approaching! I’d been through professional haunts before so I knew they were high quality but I had absolutely no idea how much went into producing and running one! Very impressive.
The tour is well worth it but at the very least you need to experience their work. Parking is good, well lit, monitored by MPD, security is employed starting in the parking lot so, while we went in the back door and bypassed all that, I could tell it...
Read moreI've never been to a haunted house so I did not know what to expect. I've always wanted to go, but my wife is too scared and my kids are too young. Sdi I went with a group of guys. To start off, this place serves beer. That's already a plus. Needless to say, this place is more for ages 13-18ish. Would be fun for date nights or group outting. I'm close to 40 and the group I came with average age was 35. The beer line was super short, but slow. We got there about 10pm and left about 1230. The lines are long. There are 2 "areas" the main rooms (4) and the 3D fluorescent rooms (3). For the admission, you can get in both. Opening weekend was $18 after that it jumps to $25, per person for general admission. You can upgrade to FastPass to skip the line for $40 per person, and increase of $15 more. If you have the money to splurge, I would say do it. Depending on the day or night you go, you can wait in line up to maybe 2 hours or more. If you're lucky you can find short lines for 30 minutes. The walk through is about 30 minutes for the 4 main rooms, and 15 minutes for the 3D rooms. They did a great job with the decorations, makeup and fear factor of people jumping out at you. ( they will not and cannot touch you). The main rooms are all very elaborate and trippy. I honestly like the 3D rooms better. Overall, it is great for younger kids, but definitely a great experience for an older guy like myself. I recommend the for any teenagers to go hang out. And fun for date nights even if you're...
