It's hard to ask for more from such a cheap place to stay. I've seen reviews from people who say they saw evidence of a roach problem. While I stayed here with my family, I saw evidence that the roach problem has been dealt with successfully. When I checked in, I saw several roach corpses on the floor of my otherwise perfectly clean room. No live roaches or other such parasites were encountered during our 1-night stay.
Our room had no real flaws to speak of. There is a fridge but no microwave. The A/C was a little tricky to operate, and we never quite worked out the best temperature to set it at. We ended up getting the room really cold before going to sleep, then turning it off for the night, then back on again in the morning.
Breakfast is all carbs and nothing hot. Cereal, toast, and muffins. The quality is fair. My dad said they didn't have any butter or jam for the toast, which may or may not be true, as he's notorious for such oversights and I didn't get the chance to check on that myself. Other reviewers expressed that if you don't make it to breakfast early, you won't get any, as staff doesn't refill it; as such, my dad picked stuff up for us around 6:45 and brought it back to the room.
Regarding wheelchair accessibility, we did not stay in a wheelchair accessible room as they are notoriously more expensive than regular rooms and fail to accommodate my mother anyway when we book them. (If you or your loved one are wheelchair-bound, you'll know what I mean.) Accessibility-wise, this was surprisingly one of the best hotels we stayed at on this family vacation. The beds sit at seat height making for easy transfers. The mattresses are neither too hard nor too soft. The hallway mirror was low enough for her to do her hair there. The bathroom door was wide enough for her chair to fit through and maneuverable enough for her to reach the bathtub/shower and lean over to wash her hair.
Regarding the neighborhood from a complete outsider's perspective, it seems to be an overall rough place. It also seems to be going through a revival. Saw some transients, but didn't interact with any. One tweaker outside of the neighboring IHOP (which served us a delicious dinner, BTW); possibly one hooker in the parking lot, albeit it's hard to tell sometimes the way that women sometimes choose to dress. I'll admit there was a moment I worried that I shouldn't have brought my family here in pursuit of a cheap hotel in between destinations, but that feeling was short-lived. There are many security cameras and gates around the property (albeit I've seen a lot of people shimmy through those gates undeterred).
Pros: cheap, clean Cons: reviving neighborhood, no...
Read moreThere are places that are cheap and so you get what you pay for and then there is this place!
The state of some of the cars outside the place, some of which looked abandoned, was the first alarm bell. The staff member on the desk was unfriendly and uninterested. The room itself looked clean but then you noticed all the damage, like handles missing, and dirt and rubbish left behind furniture. The bathroom was grubby, the shower unit was coming away from the wall, the bath tap dripped constantly and the floor was strangely sticky. We also were left a complimentary vest from a previous guest. The toilet also didnt flush properly by the end of our stay. When we checked in a woman came to reception to ask for a plunger, so there seems to be plumbing issues. But....the beds were comfortable! So far so good.
Then the fun and games begin. It seems this place is also used as government housing as there seemed to be many longterm residents. Some rooms had doormats outside and guests were constantly walking the halls at all hours of the night. The exterior doors were unlocked so the whole place was unsecured (not that reception staff would have provided much security anyway). The first two nights the couple next door were arguing and screaming for hours. On the second night it was so bad the police showed up. After they left the fighting started again to the point where it sounded physical. When we alerted reception they were uninterested in doing anything and denied that the police had been there. The arguing lasted all night and meant we got no sleep. Oh and then there were the loud gunshots heard outside the building during the night!
Finally, I can't rate the included breakfast because there were no signs of it on the first morning beyond a couple of discarded cereal boxes. We didn't bother after that. We went to IHOP next door.
I'm sure some people have stayed here and it's been okay. The room itself is what you would expect for the price. But I think staying here you will definitely be risking getting a lot more for your money than you were expecting. Book at...
Read moreVery dissatisfied with everything about this hotel. Choice Hotels should take this hotel off if there list. We felt like most of the people were living at this hotel like a government subsidized living location. It states it’s a non smoking hotel, but the hallways smelt like cigarettes and marijuana. Had to ask for a blow dryer and she told me I had to return it. I stated I was staying for a week and didn’t want to bring it back each day. She said I guess you can keep it in the room. No cups, coffee pit or coffe for the coffee machine that was in our room either. No hangers for our clothes. When we checked in 1 if the 2 elevator were not working. By our 3rd day the other elevator stopped working. We were on the 3 rd floor. So we did stairs for the remaining time every time we left and came back to our room. Our mattress had a plastic covering over it, assuming to keep out the marijuana and whatever other smells could get on the mattress. Overall experience we would give a -100 if at all possible. Yes, I’ve learned my lesson the less expensive hotels are not the standard choice hotels. We are close to platinum status, but if our next choice hotels are anything lke this experience we will not be using any of your hotels chain locations. As a gold member I’ve always been greeted at the front desk with thank you for being a gold member and given water bottles and a snack as a thank you, plus special marked parking spots. This sleep inn had none of that customer service. Please consider strongly to do a corporate person stay at this hotel to see if they feel and are treated the same way as we were. We aren’t anybody special, but we usually pick a choice hotel...
