The Botanic Garden is one of the gems in Memphis. A beautiful, peaceful area of green in the city. It is a place for relaxation, wandering beautiful paths, for learning and education, and a fun spot for the children as well. It has a great vibe and it is a must stop attraction for those interested in spending time in nature.
Many of the paths are heavily shaded a nice feature in the summer. Off the main path there are a number of small side Gardens that can be explored. There is a rose garden, a herb garden, a sensory garden, sculpture garden, formal garden, an Asian garden, and a pollinators garden. The rose garden area is laid out to accommodate small outdoor weddings and similar events. In the back corner of the gardens is a larger special event area.
The Japanese garden is one of the highlights of the botanic garden. It is beautifully laid out with walking paths, a koi pond, bamboo, and bridges. For those interested there is an audio tour available of the Japanese garden.
For families with young children, there is an entire area called my big backyard. There are wonderful plant displays and play areas for children to explore. In several locations throughout the garden there are picnic areas. Benches are scattered throughout the garden, there are many lovely spots to just sit with nature, and watch the world go by.
Throughout the year they hold special events. In The Visitor Center there's a small gift shop, rest rooms, a display of plants available for purchase, and a small cafeteria for snacks and light lunches. There is an admission charge and annual and family memberships are available. There is plenty of free...
Read moreWent for the Family Easter Egg hunt. First off we are from Kansas City and was in town to visit Memphis and thought it would be fun and a good place to meet locals and share in a Memphis tradition. So we were about 10 people back from the front of the line at gate B and overheard one family say that they had been last year and received 150 dollars worth of gift certificates and free stuff. We were startled by this because they made it clear that it was 1 prize egg per family. When they started to let families in we saw parents and children alike take off and start running to the gardens. We didn't think anything of it. We calmly walked to the Iris garden my wife spotted a prize egg and gave to my son. We exchanged that egg in and was given 4 tickets to The Cotton Exchange which we were not able to use so we gave to another family in the park. I thought the crafts and the magic tents were a great idea for the kids. I do think that it should be planned out a lot better and felt bad for the families behind us who came for the family hunt and were disappointed to walk around and find no eggs. Even if it didn't have a prize inside they could of taken some of the other eggs out of the kids areas and hid those around the park as well so kids felt like it was a Easter egg hunt and not just eggs thrown over a field. In my opinion it could be such a better experience with a little more thought...

The Rose Garden was a standout for me, with its vibrant colors and delightful fragrances. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or a romantic photo op. The Butterfly Garden was equally enchanting, filled with colorful butterflies flitting about, making it a magical experience for both adults and children.
I also enjoyed the Japanese Garden, which provided a peaceful escape with its serene ponds and lush greenery. It felt like a little slice of tranquility amidst the busyness of life.
The facilities were well-maintained, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciated the various events and educational programs they offer, which cater to all ages and interests.
