My coworkers, family and friends worn me about this place, however; I like to go against the grain and give people the benefit of the doubt. I should have listened! Upon entering the restaurant, someone screamed “Welcome to Staks!” My cousin and I were then handed menus, told to pick anywhere we wanted to sit and when we were ready to order to comeback to the cash register because nobody would be coming to the table to take our orders. Ok fine, here’s where the unprofessionalism comes. We get back to the register the two employees fussing about how to enter a ticket so they can know whether it’s for here or to go, once they finished, the lady says to me are you ready to order? Puzzled 🤔 because that’s why I came back to the register with my menu as instructed. Nevertheless I ordered. My total came out to be $41 and some change. I ordered the mimosa flight, Gouda grits, ham and cheddar omelette, and single French toast. The majority of everything was left on my plate. So I give the cashier $60 and she responds to me “you give me $60 right?” So I say ma’am what is in your hand? Not trying to be rude however, she go tell her manager. Icebreaker-I inquired about military discount before being checked out and didn’t get it, but it’s more to that story. So the manager all in the background talking about how she want have nobody in her establishment disrespecting her employees and that she’ll ask us to leave but didn’t come over, baby if you felt that way with the way the food tasted next time don’t hesitate! So my cousin was up to place her order (Warning-please ensure you know what you want before ordering because once you order and you have paid they will not let you change your order.) She ordered Gouda grits and a French toast and as we was looking walking to our table she said cousin I think I want a pancake. Mind you she had just ordered, would not let her change her order, talking about the order had been dropped, however; you still working on my mimosa flight and we hearing him call other orders out in the kitchen. So while at the table, I inquired again about military or law enforcement discount and did they do anything FREE for customers who come into their establishment and are celebrating birthdays? The server/bartender informs me that yeah they do give out military discount and I said well I asked and the lady looked at me as if I was talking to a brick wall. I said I just wanted to know. She said yeah we do them and I can get you your discount if you show me your id? Ok, my ticket was already paid, I just wanted to know for future reference but don’t lie knowing you can’t do something or because your manager in her feelings about a comment I said. So she goes to the back and comes back, I’m sorry but my manager said we’re not going to be able to give you the discount. You offer it though, so why not, what’s your reasoning? Didn’t make a scene. Asked about doing something FREE for birthdays and while I would have said no she gone say well we would have a birthday pancake that you buy (purchase) and we put a candle on it for you. Then ma’am how is it free? Make it make sense? Maybe another location is better but once I’ve been burned by one I don’t patronize any of them. Overpriced with snobby attitudes. The setup was nice and that’s about it! Stay away at all cost! Try Sunrise East, Downtown or Cordova or Big Bad Breakfast....
Read moreSooooo, my family and I went to STAKS on Poplar and Perkins, East Memphis for breakfast. It was cozy a quiet. The manager Shana was on the phone yelling at a customer telling him she didn't have time to talk to him about a order because she had to cook food. (RUDE) Our food came out, my daughter and sisters food was amazing. Mine was not as it was described on the menu. Grilled cheese with diced chicken. Well it had 1 piece of cheese with carved chicken. "It was cold and dry. The cheese was barely melted. You can tell it was on the grill long enough to warm the bread. I explained my concerns to the server whom immediately went to her manager. We could clearly her the conversation right behind us 🙄. Its a small place and was only one other table of ppl in the restaurant up front. The manager told the server to tell me, I got what I ordered and they dont give refunds if the order is what we ordered. My food was definitely NOT what was described on the menu. So we made the server aware of the sandwich not being as described and asked to speak to the manager. To let the manager know we could hear her and her attitude was unacceptable. At this time I would like to speak to someone over her. The manager comes to the table with the same excuse and attitude aldo telling us they have signs at the register for no refunds. We explained was our first time thier and hadn't noticed a sign. Fed up with it all, my daughter broke down the proper etiquette to the manager in a very professional tone. She also let her know she would be emailing the owner to see if this was in deed thier rules. The manager Shana then ask would I like for her to make another sandwich. I said no thank you. I will take the loss. She walks away and returns with a phone in her hand. Telling us her manager was on the phone whom told her to give me the money back for my sandwich. So all the attitude and unprofessionalism was uncalled for Ms Shana @ STAKS on Poplar and Perkins. Very unnecessary. STAKS needs to send her to Supervisory Skill Class. She never even apologized. First time eating with STAKS. Thank you for a memorable experience. We wont be back. Is bad customer service the reason gratuity is already added to the check? Im glad those young ladies were great. Cause we tipped them for being professional and trying to convince the manager to replace my food. And having to...
Read moreMy mother and I went to Staks for lunch today. Because we were paying with a card instead of cash, we were directed to order via the website like we were getting take out, but to put our table number instead of a name on the order. I placed the order (and paid, including tip) at 12:01pm with a 12:36pm "pick up" time. I ordered a pancake I hadn't previously tried, plus a drink and croissant and my mom ordered biscuits and gravy, plus a small order of pancakes with pecans and a drink. Our drinks arrived, but the food didn't. No one seemed to be assigned to our table to check on us or refill drinks. At around 12:50pm, we flagged down a worker to check on our food and were told it was nearly ready. We were later brought my pancakes but an incorrect plate for my mom. They took that away, and brought her pancakes. We confirmed that the biscuits and gravy and croissant were coming soon. My pancakes weren't very good, but edible. My mom's were good, but she really wanted her biscuits and gravy. She could see a plate of biscuits and gravy sitting in the window cooling and wondered if it was hers. Eventually, we flagged down another worker, who brought the now congealed plate of biscuits and gravy that had been sitting on the pass to her. I reminded that I was still waiting on my croissant. My mom tried the dish and it was gross. In addition to being room temperature, it was too salty to eat and tasted like someone had dumped in an entire cannister of Italian seasoning. It was nothing like traditional sausage gravy and there was no sausage present. We asked yet another worker to send over the manager, so we could ask that it be taken off the bill. She refused. She said the biscuits and gravy was made the way Staks makes it and the manager would tell us the same. The server was getting loud and making us uncomfortable, so we just left. I try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but I'll never be back to Staks again after...
