Meriden is such a small town, I expected the library to be small and basic. To my surprise, the library is much larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. This was my first visit. The security officer, who must have seen my lost expression, greeted me and guided me to the main library on the left side. Wow! What a clean, modern and spacious place to work, read, meet and explore resources to check out. The interior feels and looks like it was recently renovated. The main section has a large open area with comfortable sitting areas to work and read, and there are private meeting rooms you can reserve for meetings or to work with fewer distractions. It is very clean and spacious. The right side of the building is designated for children and the back of the building has a community meeting room. I work remotely and temporarily moved to Meriden. Read moreNormally the visits here are great but on this day my daughter and I visited it was not a visit I want to remember. My daughter loves to visit the library as she is teaching herself different languages. She also suffers from several medical conditions and sometime will lay her head down till the symptoms subside. She was approached by a security officer and asked to leave.. I then explained to the officer its due to medical conditions she is resting her head. He said he did not care and I could leave with her. I have served this country and we are a retired military family ..never in my life have I been treated so inhumane. Not only did he disregard her medical condition but treated us like we were trash and unworthy to be at the public library. I am heart broken my daughter had to face this kind of discrimination over a condition beyond her...
Read moreBeware of discrimination. I saw a lady there aggravating a homeless man assuming he had alcohol. (He didn't, nor did we even know he was homeless till she saw his address in the computer and spoke of his terms of living publically.) Also, another lady told this black dude he couldn't reserve a room for a meeting. This same lady presumes that all blacks steal and runs and warns everyone who's around one. She also refused to call security when a black dude asked her when he was being stalked. Ridiculous. Offensive, rude..and out of order. It doesn't even matter if you've extended grace and manners towards them, the discrimination is etched into their roots and was probably taught at home. 4 female employees I've noticed. This could easily be a 4 star institution but there are people who working there...
