1 STAR. Be warned and please read I saw Les Mis last night. Curtain call was 8pm and the show started at 8pm. I was sitting in Orchestra right row H (what should have been good seats and cost me a lot). There were at least 40 people that showed up late and completely disrupted the first 18 minutes of the show. Ushers with flashlights. People talking, making others stand up to get to their seats (you get the idea). Even through one of the best songs “I dreamed a dream” they continued to let people interrupt the audience. I really didn’t know why the actor was singing the song because for 18 minutes it was constant interruption of flowing late patrons trying to find their seats.
I spoke to the house manager at intermission. He said the producers of the show allow casual ongoing entrance until this time.
Really? Paying customers have to be completely inconvenienced and the show destroyed because others can’t show up on time. It was clear when the show began a lot of empty seats remained. You need to either hold the show until people find their seats or refuse entry until the 2nd ACT when you have this amount of people late for a show. It’s your responsibility to maintain some small measure of etiquette.
So, Arscht Center you have a responsibility to the paying guests that showed up ON TIME to enjoy a complete show. You control the theatric experience for your patrons and 18 minutes of no less than 40 people trying to find their seats in the dark is not only unprofessional but extremely rude to everyone that made arrangements to be to the show in time. The manager was cordial with me but someone must control late arrivals and ruining a show for paying patrons is not a viable option. Even your volunteer ushers felt this was extremely rude how this was managed.
And to those of you who couldn’t arrive until after 5 minutes to the start of the show do yourself and everyone a favor and GO HOME! You clearly didn’t want to be there enough in the first place so have a little respect for us that did and GO HOME!
And Arscht Center this is unacceptable and you owe the entire audience except the late arrivals a huge apology. As an avid theatre goer this was unlike anything I’ve seen before. It’s theatre, not a concert or movie. Treat it like one! I am confident a Broadway house would never allow anything remotely close to...
Read moreThe Zoetic Schmoetic improv comedy show was interesting. Six performers used props and input from the audience to create a one hour and thirty minute show. I must say that the scenes and skits weren't particularly funny. I didn't laugh out loud to anything anyone said. I was more enthralled with wondering when the performances inside were going to commence (with social distancing of course). I like that each party had separate tables that was six feet a part. Food was served via online ordering with a qr code and brought to the tables. The food didn't look spectacular so I didn't buy anything. If you come to a performance like this, maybe bring finger food like I did.
The bathrooms were two stalls only. The line to get into the building to get to the courthouse they set up had a bunch of staff who were disorderly and looked frazzled, it was weird.
Update: Saturday, February 26
I am back at the Adrienne arsht, this time my event was held inside of the ziff ballet opera house. I came to experience my first ever Alvin Ailey dance performance. Boy was I in for a treat! Wonderful work ladies and gentlemen! The dancers performance were amazing and captivating and awe inspiring! I didn't want to leave. There's a showing tomorrow, the last for this February two day showing. This time I didn't eat it drink any of the menu items outside the theater at the bar. The beverages and food items didn't look appealing and the two 15 minute intermissions wouldn't have given enough time to wait in line or eat your food in the waiting area;since inside mask had to be on and now food or drinks were allowed. If you can, use the trains and metromovers to get to the performance center.
As a person with a membership to Adrienne, I will make it very clear that I do believe this performance center needs to do a better job in closing the doors BEFORE the announcements and opening of the curtains. Also today one of your staff fell because she was hurrying to tell someone to stop recording, make it very clear at the front doors that no photography is allowed during the performance!!!!!!
I bought Merchandise to support Alvin Ailey, the wonderful dancers, and the crew!
The photo tee is $40.00 dollars and the water bottle is $25.00, I dont know if taxes are included because the cashier didn't give...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of attending the Miami City Ballet's performance of "The Nutcracker" for a friend's birthday, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The show itself was nothing short of beautiful; the choreography was mesmerizing, and the performers truly brought the magic of the holiday season to life. The dancers, both seasoned professionals and talented children, showcased incredible skill and artistry that left the audience in awe.
One aspect that stood out was the attention to detail in costumes and staging. Every performer was dressed elegantly, contributing to the enchanting atmosphere of the performance. The vibrant colors and intricate designs truly added to the festive spirit of the ballet.
However, while the show was a visual treat, my experience in Tier 3 came with a few drawbacks. The seats, unfortunately, were not the most comfortable.
Another inconvenience was the access to refreshments. I was disappointed to discover that the concession stands were only open on the lower level. This meant that if I wanted a drink or snack, I had to make the trek all the way down to the bottom of the venue, which was quite a hassle during intermission. It would have been much more convenient if there had been food and drink options available on each level.
Despite these minor issues, the beauty of the performance and the talent of the dancers far outweighed any discomfort. I would highly recommend seeing the Miami City Ballet's "The Nutcracker" to anyone looking for a festive outing. Just be prepared for the seating situation and the logistics of grabbing a snack! Overall, it was a magical evening filled with holiday cheer that I will cherish for...
