This hospital by tradition has very good medical resources, technology and good doctors, but its staff lacks of compassion, humanity, and empathy, the service they provide is the worst, the experience for both the patient and family members is the worst, I have ever experienced such a bad service, lack of professionalism, the medical staff, including nurses, have zero communication with family members. beyond the services, they lack of common sense and attention to their patients. Below I give details of my experience at this hospital, for a Cardiac catheterization.
My mom was scheduled for a Cardiac catheterization 03/21/22 at 10:30 AM, this process was recommended by her cardiologist, since she recently had a n infraction and due she has pre-existing life-threatening conditions, such as HTN and severe diabetes her cardiology wanted to perform this procedure.
As part of the preparation for this procedure, she was prescribed Prednisone since she is allergic to iodine, which is used during surgery, and to minimize the allergic reaction, they gave that medication hours prior to the surgery, as is known. steroids raise sugar levels , therefore, we worked closely with her endocrinologist to adjust the insulin doses, in order to keep your sugar levels controlled for surgery, as is to understand, all medications have a time of effectiveness, which diminishing as the hours go by, since they postponed the schedule of his surgery for unknown reasons, the insulin plan began to lose their effect, which I personally along with my mom, kept in touch with his endocrinologist, since her endocrinology is an excellent doctor, very concerned about my mom medical conditions, he maintained communication with her in order to keep her sugar under control, which is consider that this should be part of the assessment and responsibility of the preoperative medical staff, who had zero control of her medical conditions. With my nursing knowledge, I was the one who kept monitoring my mother's sugar levels in constant communication with her through her cell phone, because she had no nurse available to whom she could ask for help or ask about her concern.
Taking into account that my mother uses glucose sensors, I was able to monitor her sugar and apply minimal doses of insulin to prevent her glucose from increasing, and prevent her from entering an operating room with a sugar above 300, which would increase the risk of infections and other complications, this besides being something critical and a lack of professionalism and lack of medical attention, gave us the taste that there is no medical responsibility in this hospital, they put the lives of their patients at risk, this is what I call malpractice, due to lack of attention and common sense.
to summarize, my mom was on NPO since midnight the day before, taking 3 different doses of steroids, at different times slot, some of her medications were restricted, it is unacceptable that a surgery that was scheduled for 10:00 AM was postponed to 4:00 PM without any explanation, this situation, in addition to being stressful, gave the patient more anxiety, as a result of the whole matter during the procedure her blood pressure increased, thank God that everything was controlled, and nothing serious happened, but it could have happened, and there is no reason to wait for serious things to happen to realize that The health system is a broken system, which lacks compassion, common sense and human personnel who carry out their work with pride and dedication.
Hope this wont happen to anybody...
Read moreI would like to express my deep dissatisfaction with the care I received at the UMHealth Department of Neurosurgery under Dr. Wang. I have never felt so devalued in a medical setting. The treatment was so impersonal and neglectful that I felt like I was just a number, judged by my age and financial situation, and sent home with a potentially serious illness without the slightest respect or empathy.
My first appointment with Dr. Wang, six months ago, lasted less than a minute. He left under the pretext of getting a translator, but never returned, leaving instructions about my treatment through someone else. This seems to me to be an unacceptable level of neglect.
This Monday, I had a new appointment scheduled for 8:00 AM. However, Dr. Wang did not arrive until after 9:00 AM and spent a mere two minutes with me. He did not even speak to me, talking only to my husband, who is American, ignoring my presence and demonstrating a complete lack of consideration. The nurse who was supposed to help with the translation spoke Spanish, but Dr. Wang would not allow her to translate, insisting on speaking only in English to my husband. Although I understand some English, it is extremely difficult to absorb such critical information when you have 8 pain points, the left side of your body is completely numb, and you are in severe pain.
When I asked about insurance coverage for the nerve block procedure he had recommended, he responded coldly, stating that insurance would probably not cover anything and that my case was surgical. When I suggested the possibility of having a procedure every month to relieve the pain, I was completely ignored. His coldness and lack of empathy were shocking.
At that moment, I expected some minimal compassion, but he treated me in a cold and robotic manner. I asked for pain medication while I waited, and he refused. In the end, he gave me the number of a pain management center that only had appointments available until February 2025âan absurdly long and inhumane delay for someone in so much pain.
On Wednesday, I was fortunately seen by another doctor who showed genuine concern for my case. She carefully reviewed my exams, showing empathy and respect, prescribed medication to relieve my pain, and arranged for me to see an anesthesiologist in December. This humane and caring service was in stark contrast to the contempt with which I was treated by Dr. Wang.
Even more outrageous was to discover that, on Dr. Wangâs express orders, all information about my history as a patient had been removed from the records. This act not only demonstrates a total lack of ethics, but also puts my health at risk, since I will now have to start treatment from scratch, without a detailed history of consultations and procedures performed.
I hope that urgent measures are taken so that patients like me are not subjected to the same neglect and...
Read moreToday my mother was supposed to be discharged before 4pm. I have been waiting since 4pm for her to be allowed to leave and it is already 5:45pm while Iâm writing this and I am still waiting for her âhospital mandatedâ wheelchair ride down to the lobby. While waiting, earlier I found a nurse in a room down the hall relaxing in a patients recliner, practically asleep. Multiple help alerts blinking at the doors and 5 nurses hanging out in the round section of their front desk. I will admit I am quite upset at this point and have already tried getting ahold of a manager on duty for this PH28 north tower floor but apparently weekends are free of managers, so of course itâs a free for all here with staffâŚ.This is not our first time here. My mom has stage four colon cancer and has come here for over 15years with her multiple cancers over the past and I can assure you 4-5hour wait for discharge after âsaying the papers are being prepared nowâ is ridiculous for a Saturday where honestly there isnât much going on. Iâve seen this hospital busy and today looks like a ghost town in comparison. If a manager is reading this. PLEASE reach back out. I would love to give details on this experience for better training purposes, or however companies and facilities like to word itâŚ.lol one of the nurses Kassandra just came in giving a funny excuse that she thought my mom wanted to wait for a result before being discharged. Funny thing is, My mom told the doctor at 10am she wished to be discharged without the results. The doctor didnât put the request in until around 2pm and now apparently never told the nurses or wrote down that we didnât want the results. So they have had us here for nothing. Mind you, through all this time both she and I have been telling everyone that will listen that we are waiting on the papersâŚ. I donât understand how this is happening right nowâŚ. Will try and get more photos before I leave, should have gotten one of the nurse sleeping as proof lol đ¤Śââď¸ But here is the nurses she had today, unless they didnât change the writing. Now that I think about it, kassandra wasnât even assigned to my mom based on the board, so why is she coming up with excuses? Guess it wasnât...
