We had a party of 8 people, which is no easy task when you’re trying to give each person one on one time to teach them techniques! We each made one small plate and something on the wheel. For not having any experience, everyone’s projects turned out great! Vickie was very hands on and helpful through the whole process. This would be an amazing experience for people of all ages! From families, to couples to a girls night out. Every time I use my plate or mug I will think about the fun memories we made!
When we first got there, Vickie gave us a mini lesson on different techniques for working with clay and how to get different shapes. We made the plates by hand first. She had a bunch of stamps and things to get creative and make the project your own!
After that we all got a wheel to work on (she has 8). She started us off as more of a class, instructing us on how to get the general shape of our piece made. After that, she took time with each of us individually to finish off our creation! Some of us made mugs, we had a bowl, a beer stein and some wine cups!
When we were all done, we went upstairs to look for the color of glazes we wanted! We could get specific as to the layering of multiple colors, which also helped make it feel extra special!
Overall, it was an amazing experience! I will definitely be visiting again...
Read moreMy children (all young adults) and I spent a very nice afternoon making pottery pieces just before Christmas. It is rare that we are all together and I wanted an experience for us to learn something new but also be able to talk and interact with each other as our time together is so short. My daughter did ceramics in highschool and was the only one with any experience. It is a two hour class (took us three hours) and we all made two functional pieces of pottery which I believe we each feel are "our own", though our hands were guided during some key moments in the making. We each made our own decisions about various details throughout the process. My daughter, who has an understanding of how much time and practice goes into successfully shaping bowls, thought the class was a smart balance between giving us a chance to experience the potters wheel, but allowing expertise to intervene when needed to create a successful, useable object. If we had spent 3 hours experimenting and doing it all ourselves, we would have had odd, thick, wobbly things - yes, fine if it was week one of an 8 week course, but we were just having a fun creative experience for a few hours. So, we were very happy to come away with awesome pieces and fun...
Read moreAlan stoneware has beautiful pottery and the owner herself is amazing at what she does however, we (me, my sister, and our friend) took a Class And she was not very clear on direction and instructions on what to. She did not elaborate on terms for what we were doing or any explanation on why we were doing it and she kept taking over a lot. I love pottery, but this teacher made me feel very uncomfortable and Because of the lack of Communication. She also was very passive, aggressive and not direct about what she wanted from us. I do believe that that would be a good class for someone who is not a beginner and already has a lot of background knowledge. These cups that other people did, “even a nine-year-old did this amazing cup “ and that was because she (the owner) practically did the cup herself It’s not an experience for you to create your own piece . They all look identical. If you wanna go and play with some clay and then take a picture with it saying you did it although she did most of the work this is definitely the...
