I went in with high expectations, but was a bit disappointed. I can't say that I truly disliked anything since we did finish everything we ordered. However, the only thing that made the experience particularly unique is if you'd watched "Undercover Billionaire"
This review may come across as critical, but I believe this restaurant is worth a 2nd try which is why I gave it 4 stars. With 3 out of the 4 BBQ meats being flavorful, that is enough to warrant a return.
The first thing we noticed is that the chairs were narrow and uncomfortable. Sure, I could stand to lose a little weight, but as I looked around very few people were able to sit all the way back in their chairs. due to the curve of the back.
My wife and I each got 2 meat plates so we could share and try multiple sides. The chicken was tender and juicy. The ribs were tender and fall off the bone, but a little dry... a little BBQ sauce fixed them up. The "pulled" pork came out chopped, but was otherwise tasty. The brisket was tender, but so dry not even the barbecue sauce could help it.
Edit 9/29/19: We tried it again today and the brisket was juicy but tough. The ribs were fall off the bone and juicy. We all agreed if we order again that the ribs and the pulled pork are the winner. They really need to work on their brisket because what is not what brisket is supposed to be.
All the sides were what you'd expect. I wouldn't say anything was extraordinary. The beans were too sweet for my liking (but consistent with southern barbecue). The potato salad and cole slaw were average. The macaroni and cheese seems like it was heavy on the milk and light on the cheese.
The UnderGrog beer was a typical Blonde Ale and not something I would normally order. However since this is the only place you can get it I felt I should try it.
Unfortunately I didn't figure out until I got home there were 2 habanero sauces and I got the one that wasn't spicy.
Service was adequate, but not particularly attentive. Had it been a bit more attentive, I might have tried another beer but she only returned during after our arrived meal to ask "if...
Read moreI've been wanting to try Underdog since I saw the business come together on Undercover Billionaire back in '19. I finally made it, and sadly, I wish I had better things to say. The restaurant is very clean and decorated nicely, nice tables and hi-tops and seating at the bar as well. We were greeted immediately upon entering and seated right away by a host whose name I didn't catch. Our server, Roberta, was a bit brisk and seemed like she'd rather be ANYWHERE other than waiting tables on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered an Undergrog, which was a very good beer, my wife and daughter both had water. We started with the Brisket Poutine, which was good, a little too much black pepper for my taste ( not a complaint, just a note) but good nonetheless. My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries (they were out of baked potatoes). The pork was 'okay' but not as amazing as we had hoped, and the fries were under cooked and over salted. We tried the 'old fashioned ' sauce (I think that's the name) and we really liked it. My daughter ordered the 1 meat platter with pulled pork and fries (no baked potato) and a side salad. The salad was well put together, and all the ingredients were fresh and crispy, but again, the pull pork was just 'okay', and the fries were undercooked and way too salty. I ordered the full rack of ribs and with baked beans and fries. I'm sorry to say that this entree was $35.00 of pure disappointment. The best thing on the plate was the beans. The ribs were almost completely inedible. There was more bark than meat, and the meat that was there was completely dried out. The beans were really, really good with a nice savory sauce and little chunks of meat. I could've actually made a meal out of a bowl of beans and some bread and butter. I don't know if Underdog just had a bad day yesterday (4/27/24) or what the issue was. I would be willing to give them another chance to impress me if I were in the area, but I won't make the 250mi drive...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped in last Saturday (9/28) was greeted right away by the wonderful host Savanna very helpfuly n got us seated right away and she kindly informed us of some of the items them was out of or running low on (which tells me this little girl knows how to her job n cares) upon sitting we realized there was only 1 server on a Saturday night with a full resturant this pour server was running her tail off she was so bussie i felt so bad for her but not once did she miss a beat she was on top of it all i believe her name was Emily and as we was ordering are drinks 2 large partys walked in i believe it was 2 partys of 6 and again she was on it not missing a beat she had are drinks n food in within 10 mins of being there but saddly we still waited 45 mins to even get are appetizer(Scrappy Nachos) but the server kept apologizing for the wait and the delay on the food we told her it is not her fault then another 25 mins. Later are food came out was not happy at all the brisket tasted like it was days old n it was like rubber my husbands Ribs did not fall off the bone n he had to send then back cause they were so unedible the portion sizes didnt even fill the bowls did not enjoy anything the server asked multiple times if she could get us anything else we had refused cause we did not want to wait another 45 mins to get food n she was so bussie we did not want to bother her with anymore of a task then upon getting ready to leave a very rude and disrespectful customer proceeded to use vulgar language towards the server because he had waited over a hour for his food( you should never be rude to the server for the lack of staffing n carelessness of the kitchen) this pour girl started to cry but she still trucked through with the crazyness!!
Other then the amazing host and service there is nothing going for this place there seemed to be lack of care from managemnet cause not one time did i see one nor did a manager care to come out and help...
