Debra and I did a Staycation due to southwest canceling our flights to Kansas City. We headed out to have brunch and visit the Mardigras Museum. We had planned on walking however, It was pouring so we drove. We entered the facility via the Guft Shop, and was greeted by two employees! The were sweet as pie!! One lady took our wet umbrella and storied it but the door to dry out and the other engaged us in conversation. Local or visiting? We chatted for a bit, paid the entrance fees, and browsed the shop waiting for out time to start the tour via the prerecorded video. We spent about an hour touring all three floors of the museum. As we were leaving, a gentleman (staff) was kind enough to engage in conversation, we learned more about local traditions!! What fun!!

You cannot miss this museum! It was so interesting and the costumes were out of this world. We had a private tour and he gave us a detailed account of the Mardi Gras history and culture in Mobile. There is also a clear explanation of the mystic societies that date back to 19th century. The masqued balls, the parades, the costumes - all these traditions continue today. We saw some unbelievable King and Queen attire, a video presenting the court, elaborate (and coveted) invitations to the masqued balls. There is also a float you can stand on and pretend you are throwing beads to the thousands of people that line the parade routes up to 3 weeks before Ash Wednesday. I will say this again: this is a MUST SEE museum on your visit to Mobile.

Nice museum with some interesting memorabilia from Mardi Gras. I never realized how much of an investment the festival encumbered. I also don't understand all the mystic societies that are represented. It's pretty obvious that the festival was very segregated for most of its existence. It would have been nice if that aspect of the history was addressed in the museum. The museum is self directed with an app that describes the different stations of the tour. There are 70 or so stations, so it does take some time to complete the tour.

Absolutely a Great , Unique Museum, easily accessible from the Main Road. Plenty of free parking including for Handicap accessible Vehicles. The museum was clean and well staffed by friendly employees. Restrooms and a Gift shop available. The displays were incredible, the amount of history and historic articles are super. Guided Tours are available and Cille (I hope I spelled it right), was incredible with her knowledge of not only the museum but the city. In the area, it's a definite place to Visit.

We arrived shortly after 3, really not enough time to see everything before closing, so plan to come back another time to see more! But we had fun while there. And the lady working the gift shoppe was a lot of fun. It’s really a must do if you love Mardi Gras. Allow yourself a couple hours so you can take your time and peruse.
