I found this place for my boyfriend who needed his hair cut before a big interview. We went in and the place was so cute, (sorry boys) but it was decorated as if you were in a 50's barbershop. Even the location, Old Town Monrovia, gave the impression of a small town where everyone knows your name. Of course, they don't know your name because this is LA but the atmosphere makes you forget you're in a big city. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to explore and parking is free, compared to city parking. The guys at the shop were super friendly and not just talented but fast too. My boyfriend's hair cut took no longer than 20 min and we were surprised at how inexpensive the cut was. For a place with such charm you'd expect to pay $50 but it was an affordable $20. There are other additional services for men and adjustable seating for kids. I loved that there was a mix of people in the shop. From older men to younger, from business professional to skater, etc. All and all, I highly recommend this place to anyone new in town looking for someone to replace their old barbershop. It will exceed your expectations.

I've tried 4 of their barbers, and only Luis came close to getting my haircut right, now he is gone. I tried the 5th barber today but got the worst cut of all. I wanted a straightface, not dipping or arched.. (you tell me??),I just said it looked good because I knew I was done with OTMB. Was charged 20 for the cut when I always paid 18 (unless they raised price in the last 2 weeks.) Wish I knew where Luis moved to?

Like a lot of things in Old Town Monrovia this is a blast from the past. Great old time barber shop antique chairs and a staff of Barbers that really know how to cut. Took my kid here who is almost 7 The Barber who cut his hair had tons of tattoos and barber pole tattoos on his sideburns he was an incredible Barber and my boy looks like a little gentleman.

Done with this shop. I didn’t want to leave this review but the more I reflect on my experience, the more frustrated I am. Bruce cut my hair really fast, half way through I stop him and say this is not the size I’m going for, he goes ā€œthis is what you asked for bossā€ and I apologize and ask nicely if we can fix it.. within 4 minutes, the cut is done and no mirror is provided.. I’m heated.. I kind of get into it with him at the front saying this is one of the most lousy cuts I’ve ever received. I’m pretty shocked, considering how much pride they take in their shop and it’s a place I hold to a high degree of respect. He told me how he’s been a barber for 10+ years and never had an issue, reading these reviews it seems Like he’s had a few issues.. His buddy jumps in and offers to fix it. I pay $40 for the cut + $15 tip to the new guy and then I gave Bruce a $10 tip as well for his time ($65 on a cut I wasn’t happy with) but I’m done with this shop. Messing up a cut is fine, it’s my fault too for not being clear but making your customer feel like he can’t speak up is a different issue. These guys focus on their appearance which is great, but the second I had an issue as a customer all that went out the window, I didn’t feel welcome or even like he cared to have me leave happy. He kept acting like he was doing me a favor (he never even attempted to fix it). The guys wearing tennis shoes down the street will fix a cut 3 times before blaming a customer. If the other guy wasn’t there, Bruce was going to charge me $40 + tip for one of the worst cuts I’ve ever received and he was...

They never are available when I need a haircut and today I called during store hours and no one even answered the phone. Been trying for weeks to get a haircut. Guess I will just have to go somewhere else.

Edit: I decided to read what others had wrote after leaving my review. One customer mentioned that the price was different than what they had normally been charged previously. The response from the owner was something along the lines of, ā€œJust admit you can’t afford a $20 haircutā€ and proceeded to insult the customer. You can read this for yourself to this day. All you have to do is scroll down a little bit. To me, this is unacceptable. That’s not how we are supposed to treat each other in our daily lives and that’s definitely not how you run a business. If they don’t care about how they treat their customers then I don’t want to be their customer...
