STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BLEED! During my visit yesterday the barber decided in addition to cutting my hair he'd take a slice at my ear as well. To make matters even better he disappeared right after he did it, presumably to get the supplies needed to stop the bleeding, but didn't feel the need to actually communicate that to the guy bleeding in his chair. Once he returned he did start whispering things to reassure me like "I'm sorry", "It'll be ok", and my personal favorite "Don't worry I'll give you a discount." After he was satisfied that my hair and ear cut was finished I was ushered to the back storage room where they were going to help me clean up. This process was especially "fun" because bandaids were put on and then removed after he realized that he didn't properly clean my fresh wound.
Finally, the manager came back to speak to me and to apply another round of first aid. Though the manager was very apologetic, professional, and definitely seemed like a stand up guy; his visit was disturbing for two reasons. First, the barber cut me easily 20-30 minutes prior to this and at no point did a manager come to check on me or speak to me, I'd imagine that the manager of an establishment would try to check in with and or reassure a bleeding customer way sooner than this... but apparently not. Secondly, he explained to me that the barber who cut me was inexperienced and "thinks he's better at it than he actually is." My question is, if you know the barber is not any good and frankly dangerous (since one of the key parts of the job is handling sharp object in close proximity to people's faces), why is he still working there? I ask "still" working there because as I was on my way out, the barber was still working. Needless to say I highly recommend people steer clear and visit any of the many other barbershops that Montclair has to offer... especially if you want your earlobes to...
Read moreI don’t think they know English or they just don’t listen. Provided simple instructions 2 times. Tape up on the sides, shape up the back and trim 3 inches on the tips (I had long hair, not after writing this review). The guy still wanted a picture. Trusting him as the expert, he went ahead and cut 12 inches from the back. Left with short hair with no tape up and no shape up as I wanted. Unbelievable.
Update: changed review from 1 star because the manager had called me to try to make amends. They ultimately offered me a free appointment to come back and see one of their more experienced barbers to fix me up. I politely declined as I didn’t want anybody else to handle my hair as the damage was done. However, I was pleasantly surprised that they had wanted to make things right and were polite and professional over the phone. The manager said that if I change my mind, I can call them back to set an appointment charge free and will address the issue with the barber from today who happened to have a language barrier as they had informed me. I just want to make it clear that this review was directed towards that said barber, not the whole staff. I’m still very upset about this whole situation as I write this edit but I feel that they did the right thing for calling me and extending that offer once I’m ready. I guess the only solution I have is to wait another 8 months up to a year to have my long hair back to its...
Read moreFirst complaint is that when I called ahead for my appointment, I was told a bald head with a straight razor and a beard line up would be $60. After my horrible hair appointment my total was $73
Second complaint was the barber who cut my hair. I can’t remember his name, but he had glasses, a strong accent, and was cutting in the seat right in front of the receptionist desk. I told him multiple times all I want is the Baldy it with a straight razor at the touch up my beard, but keep the length of my beard. Before I even touches the hair on my head. Rate for the middle of my beard and cuts it as low as possible. I was very upset about but there was no going back to long beard Face, and then a nonexistent my beard. That’s a The actual haircut. He shaved my head and then use the straight razor not only did he leave patches that he did not hit my entire head except the very top was left with grit. The entire point of a straight edge razor is to get rid of that group and on top of that he completely messed up my neck and beard and sideburns let alone started using things like hot towels, and how long they completely did not Did he ask you just did it and then charged me. This is the first barber I’ve tired time and possibly mess up bald head. The shop is clean and the Receptionist was very kind but I wouldn’t ever go back to that place for an overpriced jacked up...
