The exhibits were outdated and I wish the smaller child section was more interactive.
My three star review is also due to an issue with allergies. A dog was inside of the building, and I was very concerned due to my family members suffering from life threatening allergies to dogs. The staff was not very helpful about this, saying there was nothing he could do because he thought it was a service animal. As far as I know no one asked him if it was. The dog was also not well behaved or acting trained like a true service animal would be. True service animals stay close to their owner. This dog was clearly anxious and antsy from the noise and children. Either way, I'd recommend better training for the staff to determine if an animal is truly a service animal or not (and the right questions to ask legally, which are if the animal is a service animal and if so what tasks is it trained to perform).
The staff didn't seem well equipped to handle this situation and I did not feel supported. I had to leave soon after because I was having a flare up and felt like I couldn't breathe because the dog was inside, even for a short time it doesn't matter. I ask anyone to reconsider before bringing pets or animals into businesses in general. It makes it feel like an unwelcome place for people with...
Read moreMy daughter has autism and is not very comfortable in many public places. She loved my museum and the staff was always really great with her. Today, we were treated like criminals and were followed around by the manager. She explained that they have a mask policy for anyone over 24 months. I explained my daughter, who is 28 months old, has autism and is unable to tolerate a mask. We still attempted to put a mask on her while there, but she would immediately remove it. We have been several times before and the staff has always been very understanding. Today, the manager asked us to leave and told us there were no exceptions. I am devastated to have found an inclusive place that was perfect for all children and then be asked to leave, due to my special needs daughter being 4 months too old for the policy. We will not be returning and will not recommend the...
Read moreWe live in Santa Cruz and usually go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium when visiting Monterey. I’m glad we decided to try MY Museum, my 5yo loved it.
The museum has really good exhibits, staff is super friendly. And the place is really clean. You will see employees cleaning up and organizing things pretty often. That alone is awesome.
The place is very open and has a great flow. A lot of options to keep kids busy and engaged. The creation station was definitely a highlight. They have plenty of good craft materials for kids to let their creativity flow. There’s also a 3 and under area for little ones.
And compared to other activities in the area and considering the place looks great,...
