From the start the front desk was quite rude in demanding that you know what virtual check in is. For starts you are to recieve a text message from them. Well I got none and they confirmed it was sent to the wrong number. Check in consists of credit card and ID photo sent to them. Which is alarming as they sent the text to the wrong number so who knows where they store your ID and credit card info. Bad feeling already. After being rushed to finish all this since the front desk was sincerely impatient you are just told the room number and sent off. Had to ask about the parking situation and was told I was lucky since that day (Saturday after 6pm until Monday) was free. Your options are basically street parking or a parking garage and don't expect them to advise you.
We arrived at our room after walking through a fully aged, musky smelling carpeted hallway and were presented with more musky smelling carpet inside our room. Small room. Creaky bed. Musky bed sheets. Icky sticky feeling surfaces. Furniture that looked like it came from a yard sale. A side window is all we got and it looked like it belonged in a jail cell. No window screen. Some adjustable blinds on it for some privacy. Also there is no A/C which is understandable but at the same time this whole place could use it as it feels and smells like its loaded with moisture. Corners of the walls and door trim were dirty and had a ton of touch up. Bathroom was average at best clean-ish. You only get a face towel and have to request for more at their impatient front desk team that consisted of two young women in their 20s. Upon have a nice drink we noticed one of the glass cups had a nice finger print, so the chances of it being reused and not cleaned are high. Lovely. Sink was low flow and not the kind of conserving low flow new faucets. The low flow because we cheap old faucet that is in dire need of replacement. Shower wasn't so low flow but nothing amazing nor even above average. Probably the only non disgusting area. Toilet was short as can be and we aren't tall people (5' and 5'6"). Assuming its quite an original toilet from 50+ years ago. Single ply toilet paper. One bar of hand soap. No lotion or other simple basic ammenties that are common.
Sleeping time came and my wife was having the worst allergy she's ever had. Downing pills left and right to sleep and couldn't. Something in the pillow kept her from sleeping at all. I personally am a heavy sleeper so it's no big deal. But boy was I in for a shocker. Woke up every hour due to air quality being so bad. Pillows, sheets all had a musky and moist feel to it. We had the ceiling fan on to cool us down but it was just plain dirty air. Plus we got awaken by a loud group outside from our jail cell window and had to close it. So no air all night. Even with the bathroom exhaust fan it was humid inside this room.
Next day I couldn't wait to wake up and leave. Outside air on my morning walk wasn't even close to the humidity inside that building. For sure there is some sort of mold or mildew issue underneath that carpet. Plus the floors slabs are creaking so I'd assume the owners don't want anyone to see the poor state this building is in. Upon checking out I noticed the front desk doesn't ask how your stay was. Explains a lot as they probably don't want to hear about anyones stay here.
Seems like ownership want to milk the location as much as they can with little to no investment into the property.
The only positive side of this hotel was it's location. You are dead smack in the middle of all the restaurants on Alvarado St. Walking distance to our whale watching on the pier is 10 minutes. DO NOT RECOMMEND at the time until the owners...
Read moreOur stay felt like we were staying in a haunted mansion incredibly old, incredibly worn and tattered. The carpet is stained and disgusting walls are dirty. Every part of it looked like it was not cleaned and it was from I don't even know like the 50s. We go to our room. We open it up. The bed is only a few feet away from the door and the room is smaller than a child's bedroom. The bed is incredibly loud and squeaky and uncomfortable. Worst night of sleep of my life. The headboard had very unique wood carving that I hit my head twice on just watching TV. No chair or table in the room. The carpet in the actual room was stained and disgusting. We opened the armoire to get to the TV. You couldn't walk past the bed without being in the way and getting knocked out. The bathroom was disgusting. It was like some of the old bathroom that was cleaned no amenities, no accessories, no nothing to it. It was horrible. Our view was a white roof with equipment on it. It was the actual roof, maybe single windows if that is a half window, every single sound from this ground incurred, the seagulls were god-awful all night all day horrible include every single thing like elephants walking on top of you all day day all night the whole night trying to sleep you heard every talking noise every time you move the bed, which squeaked every time you would move the bed would squeak. The shower in the morning was either scolding hot or frozen cold. Nothing in between and I didn't touch it. It was coming out and was just like that. The carpet in the room was so dirty I didn't wanna be barefoot on it. There was no room for a suitcase and no room for anything anywhere. There wasn't extra outlets on a lamp or something. I unplugged a 1980s clock but still not enough outlets for phone chargers and stuff. No coffee, no tea, no refrigerator, no microwave. No way of preserving our food unless we have the ice which is the only thing I could say is a staff is nice. I would never stay again. I'm a hairstylist. I will tell every person i know. The toilet was like an explosion going off. Twice while you were sleeping, I didn't even even wanna flush it, but then if somebody upstairs or downstairs flushed it, you heard that. The key card did not work when we got back to our room after dinner. You were given two key cards and they did not work. We had to have a staff come in and get the master to open it. The door wasn't even sealed, so even when you were dark, trying to sleep, you saw the light from the hallway in the cracks of the way. It was like when people talk about when they like their backpacking across Europe and they're on a hostile or whatever, whatever that is, that's what reminds me of. We paid $330 for a three star hotel in Monterey on our anniversary. Needless to say this was not a romantic stay...
