I'll give you the pros and cons of the Merritt House. |Pros:|- Large, beautifully decorated rooms|- Good continental breakfast|- Helpful staff who took the step of leaving keys for us because we arrived after their office closed.|- The staff's warning there are two less parking spots than rooms. We were able to park with no problem, but I credit the staff for being up front when I called and described local parking garages. |Cons:|- The fact that the place has two less parking spots than rooms. But hey, at least they told me when I called them, so kudos for that. |- This is a real inn so the front desk isn't manned 24x7. In fairness, they left the number of the manager if we needed them, and they were kind enough to leave the key under the mat, but when you're coming in late, it adds stress to arrive at a dark hotel.|- Speaking of arriving after hours, when we did arrive we drove around the place several times because we couldn't find the driveway. I recommend more lighting so this is clearer. Again, when you arrive late in a town you don't know, it's stressful to be confused over something this straightforward.|- We came on a cold night in Monterey (from what we know, they're all cold) so the room was frigid. Again, kudos to the staff for leaving a Duraflame log, but it was too late for that so it took us a bit to figure out the antiquated heating system (really, it took our waking up in the middle of the night, teeth chattering, forced to...

terrible. Room was outdated, bathroom sink broken, no counter space, bad lighting and mirror. Room was hot. No room directories for phone or facilities. Their was a ceiling fan, and a stand up fan. Should of had A/C at those prices. Some weird typed code with 12 numbers & letters for the tv or wifi???? I was soo tired even trying to figure it out was ridiculous, No menu guide on the remote control so I had to blind search with no screen info as well. Bed was hard. Continental Breakfast was cheap. Pastries look like the $5 Bargain from Safeway with their brand name yogurt. Too many breads. But no toast for toaster. Had to ask for OJ. Apples were old, and Oranges didn't look much better. The worst. The old woman with blonde hair who never acknowledge me at all. Looked, spoke, or acted friendly. Too busy talking on her cell phone in the breakfast room, but did stop to look at the tv for weather. She was angry and I felt very discriminated so I packed my bags and left well before the check out time. In fact, this same woman was the one I expressed my disappointment too. She never apologized, looked at me, kept wiping the counter, and mocked everything I said to her like a child. I've been in Sales Mgmt all my life, and this is the worst experience I've ever had. Over priced, old, and unfriendly. I'm posting on every site my awful experience. Charges being disputed. First impression is a lasting...

I was in town for a wedding, and other hotel options were a bit out of my price range. Merritt House Inn was super cute, quaint, and more affordable than the big-name hotel across the street. The bed was comfortable and my second floor room was generally quiet--I was never bothered by hearing guests in other rooms. Both front desk people I interacted with were friendly and helpful. The only things I didn't like about the stay were that it was a bit dark in the area at night (I was on foot for the duration of my stay and a little more lighting, particularly at the entrance to the hotel off the street, would've been nice), and the wifi was pretty slow. Still, I would happily stay here again.

This was a little jewel. Prices were higher then expected $333 per night but the conference hotels across the way, were $600 plus per night. Court yard rooms were very relaxing to sit at while working online for business or pleasure. Breakfast is minimal. Protein was a hard-boiled egg. Parking was $20 per night. If in the area for business a car is not needed. Excellent walk location, if you can Uber/taxi in from an airport 🛫
