The Golden State Theatre in Monterey, California, is a delightful venue that offers a truly intimate and charming experience. Though it may be smaller than other theaters, that only adds to its appeal, creating a cozy and personal atmosphere that larger venues often lack. The theater’s vintage architecture and classic design make every visit feel special, offering a perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort. The seating arrangement allows for excellent views of the stage, and because of its size, you’re never too far from the action. Whether you’re attending a concert, a performance, or a special event, the close-knit setting makes you feel more connected to the performers and the experience. The theater is also conveniently located near some of Monterey’s best attractions, including the Old Fisherman’s Wharf and a variety of restaurants. Whether you’re a local or visiting Monterey, catching a show at the Golden State Theatre is always a memorable experience. Its charm, warmth, and character make it a standout venue for entertainment in the area. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a more intimate and unique night out!

The Golden State Theatre in Monterey is a truly captivating venue, largely thanks to its remarkably preserved older architecture. Stepping inside feels like a journey back to the opulent movie palaces of the 1920s. Designed with a Spanish castle theme, the details are exquisite: wrought iron chandeliers, intricate gold ornamentation, and an "atmospheric" auditorium that evokes an outdoor courtyard, complete with a frescoed sky ceiling. The craftsmanship is evident in every corner, from the medieval Castilian castle walls to the plush velvet seating. It's clear that significant effort has gone into restoring this historic gem, allowing modern audiences to appreciate its original grandeur. The blend of impressive scale and intimate detailing makes any event here feel special, providing a rich backdrop that contemporary venues simply cannot replicate. The Golden State Theatre isn't just a place to see a show; it's an experience rooted in architectural history.

Our first time there on 11/12/2021 to see George Thorogood. The interior of the building is beautiful! Every seat...is a good seat. Getting inside was straightforward. You can get your wristband early, show proof you are vaccinated and then go have a drink or dinner at one of hundreds of nearby fantastic places. Bathrooms are easy to find. Sound was OK but not as good as an outdoor venue. My only real complaint was they DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH STAFF keeping people in their seats. People stand up and those behind cannot see. They stand up and dance and basically make those around them mad. It did not happen to us.....but I saw A LOT of it. They need staff to ask nicely "please sit down so those around can see and enjoy the concert". The Tower Theatre in Fresno does a much better job. We did not buy drinks but they appear to have a full bar and it was busy! We enjoyed it and will be going back.

Like several of the other reviewers, there is not a bad seat in this house!

Located in downtown Monterey, surrounded by shops and restaurants, with free parking for 1.5 hours before 6p, this event venue is easy to find and in a pretty safe area.

As a volunteer for a concert at this venue the sound was good, viewing of the stage and its' performers was fine from practically anywhere in the building.

The balcony has an upper view, but the seats are still good. There was also a bar available with a variety of beverages for purchase.

And despite, some of the oldness of the venue, wear and tear of the carpets, walls, bathrooms, etc. It was still a good experience.

The concert was Sold Out, and yet the size of the crowd was NOT unbearably uncomfortable, during intermission and when the concert ended.

I'd return to this venue, should another performer or performance become available. It's smallness is what makes this place attractive to smaller events and the fact that it's easy to find and park!

I didn't have an assigned seat, only stood in the back and was able to see the...
