This place is really well done, and the landscaping is beautiful. That's why I gave it 4 stars. I'm honestly a little disappointed with my visit, though. There was no "living history" aspect here. By the description and photos on the website, I thought there would be costumed people walking around, giving demonstrations. I guess I should have realized with a town the size of Montgomery (and the fact that it's not exactly a huge tourist destination) that would be impractical from a staffing standpoint, especially on a random Thursday morning when schools are in session. There was supposed to be a person working in the pottery building, but she wasn't there. Same with the spinner. I ended up asking the front desk person at the living block what the deal was - she said that they'll bring out the actors/costumed people for scheduled groups, and then once at the Christmas open house. Kind of disappointing, but again, I guess I expected too much. My toddler also wasn't too into it, but that's my fault for expecting a two year old to appreciate the "look but don't touch" aspect. I will return, but probably only for the Christmas open house, or maybe on a weekend to bring visiting relatives. It really is a lovely...
Read moreChose OAT as my venue for our wedding this past weekend. I’m very into history and wanted to go with a different wedding scheme than the usual barns and rooftop terraces. My husband and I met with Ella two months before our wedding date and signed the contract after one tour. We fell in love with the chapel and it’s original wooden floors and benches. The lighting was to die for and the green space was a short walk for the reception. We rented grange hall to hold our catering and cake table and this past weekend was a dream come true minus the rain! Wonderful place to visit whether it’s for a history tour or an event. Great folks to work with. She will meet you any time it’s convenient and let you walk around and envision your big day as much as you’d like. Very friendly atmosphere. Everyone complemented the venue because they didn’t even know it was there!! If I could go back and do it all over again, there’s no doubt we’d choose OAT to host our wedding. Sad it’s over honestly. Wish I could do it every year! Thanks...
Read moreFound this place on the map during a road trip. I'm soooo happy I did. Everyone that worked there was so nice and packed full of knowledge. The homes and businesses were absolutely amazing. What a wonderful way to step back into time and see things I've never had the opportunity to see in my lifetime. The fact that they could preserve the homes and the artifacts inside is absolutely a treasure. Such a wonderful thing they are doing.
If you are passing through town you have to make your way here. It does cost money but not much and I promise it's so worth it. Plus your money is going to a good cause which is keeping that stuff open to the public.
During school hours they do get busy with childrens tours. We went in July. It was super hot but we had the whole place to ourselves.
Highly recommend you...
