If you ever find yourself in Montgomery, AL you have to pay Davis Café a visit. This place is an institution that has been woven into the fabric of the city's history. During the Montgomery bus boycott, Meetings were held here and it was one of the locations for the volunteer cab services organised at the time.
The place looks more or less like it did in the 1950's, down to the Green booths, and floral wallpaper. Open for breakfast and lunch only, if you go there after 2, the place looks like it's been shut down for years. This place is not fancy, but it's a great place to get a meat and three, just like how your grandma makes it. The lunch menu is usually 1-3 meat options and then a number of sides, some might run out depending on when you go. They also have a number of cakes and desserts, like banana pudding, and red velvet cake.
The clientele here is very varied, from construction workers, to lawyers from nearby offices, and tourists. Everyone in Montgomery knows this place, and it shows. Portions are large and affordable. this is not a place to ask for customised orders based on your dietary needs. It is what it is and I hope it stays that way. Just good, home cooked food made with love and lots of...

Since time was going to be an issuie of getting back to Atlanta, GA. I recherched and found the Davis Cafe and spoke to Shelia and asked if they had seating together for our party and could we prepay our individual orders and have the food ready once we arived in Montgomery. The repretation and reviews that prompted me to choice this outstanding landmark goes without question. So, if you are ever in the capitol city of Montgomery, give you and your party a treat and some amazing food when you visit Davis Cafe. I wish they were in Atlanta, like the old saying goes "The food is so good it wants you to go and slap your Mama" - A great time for sure, thaks for the service. -...
Read moreFirst I would just like to start off by saying that everyone was super sweet and welcoming and nice. But unfortunately the food was just way too greasy for me. I ordered the western omelette with bacon. I didn't realize that it came with grits and toast. The grits and omelet were served on the same plate and all of the butter from the Grits ran under the Omelette it was just super super greasy. The flavor would have been good if it hadn't been for all the grease now the bacon had a awful taste to it I don't know if it was the way it was smoked or what but I didn't like it. However the toast was wonderful. I did taste the grits even though I'm not a fan of grits but they were very Bland I didn't like them. But like I said everyone was super welcoming and nice I bet some of the other food is wonderful. But as of today on my first visit I can only give it three stars because of the wonderful friendliness and...
