To call Hubbard a park is misleading. Mystical, enchanted forest for dogs, hikers, skiers, runners etc might be more appropriate. I also wouldn't be surprised if literally elves, gnomes or goblins lived there. You can feel the magic in the air.
If your dog can follow the canine rules of conduct, this place is literally 300+ acre dog park. How awesome is that???? (Canine rules of conduct are on the park website).
This isn't the type of park with a playground for children. While there are picnic tables, benches and pavilions, Hubbard is more of a forest with winding trails. The "playground"' is the forest itself, which I appreciate. Kids need to learn to play in the woods!
Some of the trails can be quite technical. The path that leads up to the tower is the easiest, but still quite hilly.
During Halloween, there is the enchanted forest, which is a performance by the Bread and Puppet theater. Highly recommend going if you can get tickets!
In the winter, they groom trails for xc skiing. There are so many community events that occur in this park. It is truly a gem and is something other cities should...
Read moreSome towns have a small park to play in, for for sure Montpelier has several of those but it also has Hubbard Park. Because it is annexed to the town which is small to begin with, it is a central attraction for those living in Montpelier and the surround areas. At the center of the park is a tower that allows you to see amazing vistas of the surrounding mountains. Every season is different. There are picnic tables and facilities for grilling. There is road access but many people from the town just hike up. To get to the tower you have to park then hike, about 10 minutes is you are capable. I have trouble walking and use a cane and I made it in about 20 minutes. The air in Hubbard Park is so clean and refreshing. The trails are wide and cleared. It is an amazing place. Take your camera as there are many photo...
Read moreA local destination for our tree hugging hipsters and visitors from out of town. They have decent trails for biking + walking. The landmark of the park imho would be the stone(d:) tower. It is a short climb on modern metal stairs. This is, from my experience, the best place to view the capital city's Independence Day pyrotechnic. 1 year my wife and I were fortunate enuff 2 view the pyro show right in front of us. In the remaining field of our vision was the most dazzling electrifying, electrical storm I have ever witnessed. We were unsure as to what display we should choose to watch more of. The lightning was stealing all the fireworks' thunder;) Bucket List this tower and the pyrotechnix. It will always be in...
