According to Merriam-Webster, the word bohemian, when used as an adjective, literally means “socially unconventional in an artistic way.” I suppose you could use unconventional to describe the status quo for the customer service or lack there of in this particular establishment. Specifically in reference to a single middle aged female employee with dark hair. She felt the need to micromanage the placement of my toddlers glass of water, asking me to move it from one of the numerous empty tables I had placed it on in fear of it being knocked over back to the crowded table full of expensive pastries purchased by my family and friends. Why are you even telling me what to do with my glass of water? Am I not at least a little entitled to some customer service or even respect after spending 40 bucks in here? I have done nothing wrong here except decide to spend my time and money in a sterile environment devoid of common decency or community. If you want to engage in a live action version of the “Soup Nazi” episode of “Seinfeld”, then by all means frequent this pretentious soup kitchen. You won’t be disappointed. In the meantime, I will continue to...

A few months ago when covid numbers spiked again, we went in, masked. No problem. The sign out front said in bold EVERYONE underlined MUST WEAR A MASK. Again, no problem....until you go in and every time the owner is in there... not masked. What?
Now they are take out only and masked. Again, no problem. We order and wait for a friend, I take my mask down momentarily for a sip of chai...nowhere near any other human being. I get rudely confronted by staff, "No eating or drinking. We require masks at all times." No problem. I forgive the rudeness (but it doesn't go unnoticed, it never has, that the staff here never smiles, never greets customers kindly, and is, in general, rather angry seeming). And then I look up and one of the staff has her mask off and is eating.
This business repeatedly provides one of the most unpleasant, unwelcoming experiences. I highly recommend just walking one block down State Street to Capitol Grounds for your coffee...
Read moreWow! The last reviewer giving this fabulous bakery 1 star was so mean- spirited . Do people not realize what the food industry owners and workers have been through trying to just stay open and positive this past year ? Bohemian Bakery is in its 3rd incarnation and absolutely rocking it on State and Main in Montpelier.. The owners found creative ways to serve the community during covid with a walk up window and have now moved into a beautiful space filled with natural light and stunning artwork/ decor by owner Annie B. They have worked so long and hard to bring this space to life and to reopen to full indoor service . Its simply beautiful , every last detail and the pastries are heavenly as always. They set high standards in all that they make from the coffee to the sandwiches . They may be a while making the quantity that is now needed and are working every day to make it happen. Please be kind during these difficult times. Five stars + for this...
