Classic old pub, comfy and casual. Scarred dark-wood bar on the right and booths along the left, and - thank God - air conditioning! Great service even though it was mostly full for Sunday brunch. And, amazingly, the food was just excellent. Especially the lobster rolls - in Vermont? - yes, in Vermont. We spent a week in Newport eating lobster rolls every day and these were as good as anything we had at that seafront mecca. Completely packed with fresh lobster, a perfectly selected and toasted bun, just the right mayo with herbs and spices. Outstanding! Not to be outdone, the fried potato cakes were delicious as well, and our companion loved his bacon and pancakes. So why only four stars? The owners felt the best way to keep the front door from latching while they served the outdoor diners was to keep the deadbolt extended, so every time the waiter went in or out it the door would swing shut and the bolt would crash against the door frame. We were seated next to it and the the crash would occur every 15-30 seconds, nonstop. And so easy to avoid - just unlock the deadbolt and put a piece of tape over the latch. By the end everyone at our table agreed that if it weren't for the god%#$ door this would've been a perfect lunch. Still pretty...
Read moreBurgers are terrible. Every burger I get here is a greasy mess. I take one bite and a waterfall of grease pours out of the burger. They also put the hot burger patty on top of the lettuce, onion and tomato, etc. so the garden just gets wilted and soaked in grease. It's disgusting. The patty themselves are flavorless. Langdon Street Tavern is also incapable of cooking a rare or medium rare burger- you get a medium well or well every time no matter what you ask for.
Beer is consistently flat. On a number of occasions I have gone to Langdon Street Tavern and have been served a flat beer. It tastes as if the keg was tapped a while ago and wasn't emptied fast enough so the beer has now gone flat. You're better of getting a canned or bottled beer. If you want a glass of wine, don't even bother coming here. Most wines were opened days ago so they have gone bad.
Langdon Street Tavern is a fun place to hangout, I just wish the food and drinks were better. It's a nice place to chill for a bit, watch whatever sport is on, and play some pool. It's not a bad spot to grab a beer and maybe some fries. It's honestly a shame their burgers are so bad because this is a place I would visit more if they had...
Read moreOk so it was a friends b day we went Sunday. Apparently they do a brunch on Sunday from 10am till 2pm. Please note 2PM. We had a reservation for 1PM. The brunch menu was on the table for us, at 1PM the host said the kitchen was not serving brunch any more today, and we would have to wait another 1/2 hour before we could even order off the other menu.
We couldn't wait an hour to get our food, and we all knew what we wanted off the brunch menu. Remember a half hour before we could even order, so obviously an hour to get food.....
The host finally asked the kitchen to feed us brunch and they finally agreed as long as we didn't want hollandaise, so 1/3 off the menu and 2 of us wanted some kind of a Benedict.
Food was just ok, and 2 of the 3 if us are, are chefs, and know for example it only takes 3 or 4 minutes to make hollandaise.
The only reason I gave them 3 stars is the waitress was 5 star, the only adequate. Their potato pancakes are dollar size frozen hash browns. I've made potato pancakes and had them numerous times in restaurants, just call them what they are. They...
