I really enjoy B’s and the selection they offer, but lately I’ve been a bit disappointed in the customer service. I brought a guitar to B’s for some maintenance a few days ago, as I needed my nut slots filed out and bridge set appropriately. Although the nut slots were filed out to fit my thicker strings, they were still angled to the right, which I had noted was causing issues with tuning. Furthermore, there is a chip in the finish that was not incurred prior to picking my guitar up - not the biggest deal as the guitar has a few dings here and there, but this was a noticeable chip on the front of the body. When picking my guitar up, the guy at the counter threw a lot of unsolicited and unappreciated comments my way pertaining to seven string guitars and seven string players.
I can say that I appreciated the two-day turnaround and communication through the process. I’ve been a customer at B’s for over three years and will continue to remain so, but this last experience left a sour taste in my mouth. B’s has a lot of fantastic gear and really knowledgeable staff, this is the first staff member that myself (and numerous people I know) have had qualms with.
This was my first remotely negative experience at B’s in many years, I want to emphasize that I still have a high opinion of B’s and will continue to shop there as their selection and support are...
Read moreI utilized their instrument repair service. They called and said the sax only needed some cork replaced and a little cleaning ($100 repair) to be ready for band class. I questioned the integrity of the pads considering it is over 50 years old but was told they were fine. I got the instrument back and ignored the sloppy job performed on the cork (damaging the beautiful patina of the instrument). My daughter and I both struggled to play clear notes (pads were clearly not adjusted to cover the holes properly). It was sent to a different repair shop and the entire thing needed new pads (new estimate was $460). I was informed after the fact that their repair shop has no training or certification and is not at all qualified to perform repairs.
The music shop itself seems fine (hence the 3 stars) but I absolutely do not recommend their repair service. It has resulted in months of frustration and tears while my daughter tried to learn an instrument that wasn't playable. She practiced more and more but didn't improve. She thinks she is terrible at her instrument and has asked to quit band. Now she will be out of an instrument for 3 weeks while a different shop does the repairs that should have been completed...
Read moreWent here today expecting this to be like every other small music store, but I was wrong, this place is AWESOME. I've been looking to step up my distortion game as I currently have BOSS ds-1, but haven't found anything that really gives me the exact nasty, but defined distortion. I walked in, got greeted, looked at some of the BEAUTIFUL guitars they had. Finally I walked up to an employee (my receipt says his name is Reid) and asked for some pedal recommendations. Best decision I could have made. He was SO HELPFUL. He ran around the store, showing me countless pedals, letting me test them out, explaining the strong suits of each pedal, telling me how to use it, what pedals I should stack, and the settings he thinks best fit my description. We eventually narrowed it down to 2 pedals. He had me turn around and start jamming while switched between the pedals, asking me which I liked better. (He also let me play at some pretty high volumes making sure I could clearly hear the differences in each pedal). I ended buying the BOSS ML-2.
I cannot express how helpful Reid was. Someone get this man a raise.
P.s. I also got these epic cat paw pedal button...
