The theaters at Stone Theatres are large, spacious internally, and inviting. The seats are not uncomfortable although, unlike their competitors, they are not as roomy, reminding one of flying coach in airplanes nowadays, many more seats are cramped into their rows than their local competitors, and moreover, they do not recline. Also, unlike some of their local competitors, here at Stone, neither can you buy specific seating in advance, nor can you purchase specific seating at the box office either, so therefore, if you have a particular seating preference, it is imperative that you and your party arrive at the theater early, which is what me and mine did yesterday, Monday, February 22, 2021, for the 1:15pm showing of the just released film Nomadland (which won the highest awards at the Venice and Toronto film festivals) in Stone Theater's theater #14.
And were it not for the following, all of the aforementioned could have been eclipsed. The movie previews appear on the screen. There are two separate advisories: the first advisory is for moviegoers to turn off all of your electronics, explaining that cellphones and texting are greatly distracting to other movie patrons and so, please, turn them off now.
The second onscreen advisory, and in all of my 67+ years on Planet Earth, this ever curiously marked the first time I had ever heard/seen this critical, key advisory being presented on the screen to the movie viewing audience: Please. NO TALKING during the course of the movie folks. It is greatly distracting and discourteous to everyone trying to watch the film.
Sadly, 4 or so rows directly back from where we were sitting smack in the center of the theater, a well dressed middle-aged woman and a gentleman sat, and she was rarely, ever silent, throughout the entirety of the near 2 hour movie. Twice, I had to turn entirely around in my chair, and give her the death stare, but the results, sadly, were too short lived. At one point, exasperated toward movie's end, I stated loudly for many people in the theater to hear, "Unbelieveable," and then "the rudeness," and, within minutes, thankfully the movie had ended, we were out on the street again, on our drive home, me foreswearing never to return to Stone Theater, on the oft chance - of ever risking encountering her again.
Was it mental illness that led her to seemingly be giving her supposed husband/male companion a verbal, blow-by-blow recitation of the film's activities as they transpired - over a near -- 2 hour long movie? I don't know.
What I do know is that the experience soured me on ever returning here, given the likelihood, the possibility, that she frequents this theater and her bizare conduct - stands unchecked.
Had a Stone usher/representative perhaps even so much as entered the theater, and silenced an incessant talker such as she, we would have experienced a tranquil theater experience which is what we believed we had paid for and deserved.
Granted, Covid-19 has, like so many other industries, devastated the movie theaters, and they are understandably part recipients of the Nation's Stimulus bailout packages designed to mitigate the economic devastation which they are and have been suffering. And, Stone Theatres has taken many health-related measures to protect the movie going public in keeping with the CDC guidelines.
Far too easily overlooked by corporate (and by this, and any theater, for that matter) is that people will not be "return customers" to a theater if they are subjected to the aforementioned type of disturbing and upsetting experiences when, alternatively, they can stay home in the comfort of their own homes and view world class films on Netflix - without being subjected to -- unchecked mental illness or otherwise incessant, unchecked talking in a movie theater, leaving the public no alternative but to vote with their feet (and their wallets!) going elsewhere for their...
Read moreWent here for the 1st time on Sunday August 10th 2025 with my mom and aunt. It was a rainy day in myrtle beach, and we decided to see the movie F1. Grand 14 is also called Stone Theatres, and is located in Market commons in Myrtle Beach. A great pro about having 14 theaters is that movies may stay longer in the theatre- for instance F1 came out in June, and it was still playing here. Oh, and parking, there is a nearby garage that we parked at, and it was free! (Devile parking garage) Before arriving here, My mom signed up for their rewards program, which offers discounts on tickets, and discounts on consessions, and probably various other things. Each trip to the movies earns you points, and one can get points by both purchasing tickets and concessions. This was explained by the cashier who served us popcorn and soda, who was pleasant. We also brought tickets in advance so we didn't have to wait in line and just went right in. The ticket line is just outside the theater. Before getting concessions, we got our seats in the theater. seats were comfy. Leather seats that rocked. Didn't recline like cinemark though! Then we got concessions - they have everything from ice cream, beer, soda, wine, nachos, candy like sour patches, worms, raisonetts, and of course popcorn, and soda! They also were selling popcorn buckets as well. Cashier was also very pleasant and showed us how to use the app, as well as explain the above things i mentioned. we got a popcorn and a soda, with a reasonable price too! Overall enjoyed the movie. Oh and the restrooms are clean, and easy to find from the theatre. Hope to be back...
Read moreWent last night to this theater and let me just say it was an absolutely horrible experience. First off the service at concession stand was a joke. They had more than 5-6 employees walking around doing nothing when they could’ve easily taken an order, instead they leave a poor trainee that’s struggling to take the orders. I asked another employee if they could help take my order he said no and proceed to just walk around and in the back the other employees were just chit chatting away. More than 10 minutes have gone by and mind you that nobody else is in line but me and the people in front of me have a big order and nobody else can come help take another order or come help this new employee who was struggling. I decided to leave and watch my movie after a little while I came back to see if things had gotten better but nope same thing same trainee struggling with an order taking a long time and other employees just talking away. When I did buy the pop corn and drinks, the popcorn was stale and had no flavor at all. The seats inside the theater are very uncomfortable and they don’t dim the lights all the way. I’ll never come to this movie theater ever again. Wish I could get a refund for such an...
