What a nice experience! It's pretty pricey (about $200 per person) but it's definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. Here's a quick rundown of the schedule for the sunrise trip (which I think is the only time they fly probably due to weather/pressure conditions): Evening before: Call them to make sure your flight is all set for tomorrow, weather-wise Day of - 5:30 AM: Arrive at Model Bakery at Oxbow Market. Here they will provide you with some coffee and pastries (the almond croissant was amazing). You can also go to the back of the building for bathrooms (actual bathrooms, not porta-potties and I highly suggest you go because it could be a long trip). I believe you can park in the Oxbow parking lot but I'm not sure if it's free or not. We pulled into the first street parking spot we could find. Thankfully, it was a Saturday so street parking is free on the weekends 6 AM: Sign waivers and get loaded into vans that will take you out to where the hot air balloons actually are. Where they fly from depends on the flying conditions but our location was about a 40-minute drive out. Make sure you don't make any plans for after the flight (i.e. an actual flight on an airplane, or something you can't miss) because depending on the conditions of that day, you could be driving out further, which means you could be back later. It mentions that you would be back by 8:30 but when we were signing the waivers, they said there were instances where people weren't back until 11. 6:40 AM: Get loaded onto the balloons (maybe 10-15 minutes for everyone to get on), which are already set up when you get there so make sure you get your photo op quickly because they deflate the balloons as you are landing. The flight lasts about 45 min to an hour and you get great views of Napa. Make sure you dress warmly because it's cold up there, but the hot air from the propane (?) does help a lot 7:45 AM: Get your last photo ops (balloon is now mostly deflated) before they load you back into the van for the drive back to Oxbow My only complaint was the capacity of the balloon. I believe the balloon had four compartments from what I remember - one in each corner. I appreciate that they put your parties together (and that there are plastic separators - well more like curtains - between each compartment. However, our group was 6 people. I would say we are relatively thin women and it was a tight squeeze. The couple next to us was chillin with a whole compartment to themselves so I feel like they could have split us into 3 and 3 for a more comfortable ride and better experience. I probably wouldn't do another balloon ride in Napa but the experience definitely has me wanting to do one in other countries.

There were four of us, and we made reservations for Monday, but the weather wasn't cooperating, so we rescheduled for that Wednesday. So be aware that may happen to you. We left several days open during our vacation just in case we had to reschedule something like this. However, we were so happy that it worked out on Wednesday! The sky had very few clouds, the view was amazing! As someone who has a slight fear of heights, the scariest part was watching the ground get smaller as we first lifted up into the air. After that, I was awestruck with the view the entire trip. It was early in the morning, so we were able to see the sun just above the mountains. We would rise up, then drop down, and so on. Our landing was perfect.... hardly any bumps or hops. I was expecting a crash landing (I have no idea how those things landed), but it was slow and easy and gentle. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Chad was our pilot, and he gave us so much history and information about the valley and the area. He was very informative and entertaining. I highly suggest adding this to your Things to Do list as you will not be disappointed!!

I know there are lots of companies to choose from but we went with Balloons Above the Valley because the meeting place was about 5 minutes from our hotel and they were a little bit cheaper than other places. And we are SO GLAD WE DID!! We had an amazing time from meeting Scott & Joel at the bakery to get checked in to Chad, our pilot, taking us up over 4100 feet!!! I never expected to be able to go that high, but conditions were perfect for us. Weather in Napa was foggy, so we took off in a field near Winters, about a 45 minute drive from Napa. We could see the beautiful fields, a little of Lake Berryessa and all of the spectacular mountains. All of the staff was amazing, especially Chad who was an expert pilot. Full of information, fun and professionalism. We highly recommend Balloons Above the Valley for your hot air balloon experience of a lifetime!

Had a really great time this morning! My boyfriend and I did the balloon ride and champagne flight and had a great time. Balloons Above the Valley provided pastries & coffee at our meeting spot, and once we were all grouped together we took a shuttle to the launch spot, which happened to be on the wine train train tracks (don’t worry, it was before the wine train was running for the day). We lifted off with ease and had a really spectacular view of the other balloons that were already up. Our pilot, Russ, was really nice and informative and answered all of our questions. He made some great ‘Dad jokes’ too. Landing was smooth, and we shuttles back to have brunch. It was an all around great time, with a great company. Would 10/10 recommend using this company if you are going to go hot airbalooning in the Sonoma/Napa Area

Without a doubt flying in a balloon is a perfect way to see the Napa Valley and the surroundings. The staff of Balloons Above the Valley are professional and super friendly. They explain everything thoroughly. They make the entire experience safe, fun and memorable. Thanks to Shani who came to our hotel and drove us to Model Bakery for coffee and pastries before our flight. She was very friendly and helpful explaining what would happen each step of the way. Jake, a third generation pilot, piloted our balloon and narrated as we were in the air. He is well suited for his job with great knowledge and skills and a super personality. We had a perfect morning, filled with sunshine, to fly and the views of the Napa Valley were beautiful from our basket. I highly recommend this company and this unique way to see Napa.
