I recently took a screenshot of an outfit that HIM had posted on their Instagram page into the store because I wanted to purchase that exact same outfit. The store associate, Sidney (sp?), took one look at the picture and quickly pulled each item while chatting with me and taking the time to ask me questions about myself. Even though I've just recently lost a good amount of weight, I still wear (what I view as) "bigger" sizes. However, I never felt judged or embarrassed during my time in the store when openly discussing what sizes I wear with Sidney. Also, she was very receptive to my suggestions on alternative shoe options to complement the outfit. Once I tried on all of the pieces, Sidney was honest yet complimentary when I asked her for her thoughts on the overall look and fit of the garments; it was awesome to feel safe discussing style and body-type with a stranger, and we actually decided to go with a smaller size in most of the pieces. While trying everything on, the store owner, Ross, came into the store. As I prepared to leave, Ross talked with me about my choices, appreciated the shoe I paired with his posted outfit versus the shoe he had originally posted with it, and thanked me for my time and business. All of this while Sidney took the clothes from my arms so that I wouldn't have to carry them while I continued to browse and chat with Ross. It was my pleasure to shake both Ross's and Sidney's hands as I left the store because I can't remember the last time I truly ENJOYED a shopping experience. I look forward to making future trips to HIM Gentleman's Boutique in New Albany because the clothing options/styles offered are great while the atmosphere and service are even better. Thank you, HIM, for making me feel like a priority to your business and, ultimately, making me feel good about myself and...
Read moreI had a VERY negative experience with the owner, Ross at this store. I had tried talking with him about possibly participating with a community event. Instead of politely declining from the jump, I was simply ignored and brushed off via email and phone contact. I came to the store to re introduce myself. The owner simply made me feel completely humiliated. He asked questions such as, "why are are you here? What made you come to my store?" "My clothes are too expensive for you. This is a "bad time." Words cannot explain how this has made me feel. But as a WOMAN OF COLOR I DEFINITELY will NOT return. It's a shame that we have people who are tunnel-vision and can not see past what is in front of them. What's more sad is that I know important people in the community who can help expand his clientele. But he simply got what he wanted. I will not refer customers to him. Ross can stay in his limited "bubble." A message to other minorities, save yourself the trip and shop at a boutique with an an owner who is more appreciative and...
