I have multiple food allergies and intolerances, including milk and gluten, and this place is a dream come true for me. I had one scoop vanilla and one scoop pistachio-almond in a bowl, with a gluten-free dark matter cone. My partner had the coquito flavored one, which tasted just like real coquito. The vanilla was everything a vanilla icecream should be and more. It was seriously the most perfectly balanced vanilla icecream. The pistachio-almond had a delightful sweet toasted almond flavor, with the pistachio being more subtle, that reminded me of pignoli cookies. There were a liberal amount of almonds in the icecream. The cone itself was fantastic. Nobody would know it was gluten-free without notification. The 45-minute commute was well worth the effort, and we definitely plan to return.

I am obsessed with Vía Láctea!! Stumbled upon an instagram post about this place one day and honestly, life has never been the same. I came about 3 times in the span of 2 weeks because they have so many unique flavors and I needed to try them all!! The texture and taste is somehow way better than dairy-based ice cream. It’s sweet, but without that heavy feeling afterwards. I don’t think I’ll ever go anywhere else. Aside from making insanely delicious ice cream, they offer a teacher discount on Tuesdays, which I really appreciate. They're also dog-friendly, and they sell peanut butter pupsicles for your fur babies :) I will be back often!

Very tastefully designed ice cream shop (see what I did there?) with a great variety of ice cream flavors, real wholesome ingredients without junk made in-house! You can't ask for anything better. The owners are friendly, informative, and fun to talk to! Highly recommended for meeting up with friends, outings with family, or on a whim!

My wife and I just left Via Lactea and we’re so excited to have found it. We were heading to Bella Casa Vegana for some vegan sandwiches and happened to park right in front of it. It’s a really big space but not many tables. I thought it was really smart that they offer an ice cream flight of four flavors, which gave us a chance to try a bunch all at once. The praline, pistachio, vanilla caramel, and dark chocolate were all crazy good. The base is coconut. I tasted it more in the vanilla caramel, but with stronger flavors it didn’t come out at all. We were so sad that we’d stuffed our faces too hard at Bella Casa and couldn’t finish it all. My wife and I live in Norwich, so we’re not in New Haven often, but we agreed that anytime we come, we gotta go to Via Lactea….possibly with a couple of...

This place is ideal for vegan/lactose intolerant folks like me. This ice cream shop started in Puerto Rico (is still there, I believe!), and since their inception have creatively used coconut milk as a vegan alternative. It gives me "grandma's homemade" vibes through and through and in the best ways possible. Their ice cream is incredibly rich and the subtle notes of the coconut milk accentuates the diverse array of flavors they have! I have gone there several times already, and each time was blown away by the love, craftsmanship, and positive energy of the place. I recommend their coffee and pistachio ice cream, but don't sleep on their sorbets too! They also have pints for folks to take home, should they...
