When my wife and I were planning our New Orleans trip, we knew that we wanted to try a tour. There were so many options and it was a bit overwhelming especially because we heard that some were just a joke or weren't worth it. So, after reviewing the various tours and determining that Grey Line was a good fit for our other activities, we signed up for Grey Line's New Orleans Craft Cocktail Walking Tour, knowing that we'd have a few interesting drinks, and maybe some good stories, and good company. Grey Line was actually a major hit. They boasted the oldest and most popular cocktail walking tour and they were correct. They did not disappoint. During our visit we did the Craft Cocktail Walking Tour, Cooking Class, Whitney Plantation, Airboat Tour, and Nachtez Steam Boat Dinner, and also the House of Blues (not Grey Line). Every single trip was a great experience showing Grey Line's focus on quality and customer focused representatives. They also had a central location for most events.
For the Craft Cocktail Walking Tour, our guide was Tim.
He came and picked us up directly after our cooking class. At first it was just my wife and I, then suddenly, a lively group (we could tell that they were having a great time) of 8 or so walked up to us and Tim called to us by name for the Walking Tour. Immediately we hit it off with Tim, he had great positive energy, and was efficient keeping us all on track walking to each location all while filling us in on the history and even better - his personal experience as a local. Tim was so knowledgeable that it felt almost like a personal and secret experience, some intimate knowledge shared from one local to another. It certainly didn't feel like a tourist experience for most of the walk. Tim was an extremely kind and inquisitive guide. He listened as much as he spoke and was genuinely curious about the people in his group and interacting with everyone, giving all personal experiences while keeping us safe and aware. I think we learned as much from him as he did us, and that made it truly immersive. We learned so much about the local drinks, buildings, and culture. Tim took us to some of the most unique areas of New Orleans that we wouldn't have discovered on our own. This mix of history and experience from a local's perspective was the highlight of the trip. We come from a tourist town and try to show our friends, family, and tourists the special parts of where we're from and we felt like Tim did this for us, building a genuine connection, in just one evening of meeting. Tim is the best tour guide that we had all trip, and that I have personally ever experienced. I would specifically request him, and I wish he did tours anywhere I go because I loved his humor, knowledge, and the way that he tells the stories and relays information. You can tell he's a good person and he's got you covered for a great adventure. Tim gave us the best local experience showing us the heart and soul of New Orleans, where we only expected the cover and hoped for some glimpses of what was underneath, he opened the windows wide for us. We had the best time, learned a lot, and had so much fun. Tim was able to build unique experiences into his tour and really took personal ownership of that for everyone, that's what made it special. Tim's talent as an expert communicator and guide were on full display. We knew that we were being guided by someone special. Thank you for your performance, friendship, genuineness, and for certainly going above and beyond. You didn’t only give us an experience, you guided us on a journey. We'll always remember this part of our trip and will always recommend it to others. You deserve...
Read moreLet's get this straight right out of the swamp – when you sign up for a tour with Grey Line in New Orleans, you're not just signing up for a tour; you're signing up for an adventure of a lifetime. And our escapade through the mysterious bayous and the majestic Oak Alley Plantation was nothing short of spectacular, all thanks to our dynamic duo: Kate, our encyclopedia of fun facts and folklore, and Dominique, the chauffeur extraordinaire.
First off, Dominique deserves a standing ovation for navigating the roads with the skill of a seasoned pirate steering through treacherous waters. Each stop, from the depths of the swamp to the grandeur of Oak Alley, was seamless, thanks to his prowess. If there's a smoother ride in New Orleans, it must be on a cloud.
Now, onto the main event – the Swamp Boat Ride, a thrilling voyage into the heart of alligator territory. It was like stepping into a nature documentary, except you're in the boat, and yes, those gators are real! Kate, our fearless leader, was equal parts informative and entertaining, weaving tales of the swamp that had us hanging onto her every word – when we weren't busy snapping pictures of our reptilian friends, that is.
But the adventure didn't stop there. The Oak Alley Plantation Tour was a walk through time, with Kate guiding us through the history and haunts of this beautiful estate. Her passion for the stories behind the grand oaks and the historic home was contagious, making the past come alive in a way that textbooks never could.
Kate's wit and wisdom, combined with Dominique's smooth sailing from site to site, made for an experience that was educational, entertaining, and downright enjoyable. Grey Line Tours has truly mastered the art of showcasing the beauty and mystery of New Orleans, with a sprinkle of humor and a whole lot of heart.
If you're looking to explore the soul of New Orleans, do yourself a favor and book a tour with Grey Line. With Kate and Dominique at the helm, you're guaranteed a journey filled with laughter, learning, and lots of "wow" moments. Five stars simply don't do justice to the magical experience...
Read moreKate was our tour guide. We have mixed reviews on Kate. On one hand, she was obviously very knowledgeable about New Orleans, the plantations and all the surrounding areas. We really appreciated her for that as she spoke on the history of the City and everything about it.
The problem that we had with Kate was she never stopped talking. This was an eight hour tour and if you can imagine being on the bus for about half of that time and her not stopping talking was a little much. She also never paused in case we did have questions or anything, she just Talked and talked and talked. At the end of the eight hour tour would’ve been nice to have that last hour back to just relax and maybe doze off but instead she just kept going.
Robert, the Driver was fantastic. He got us around safely. He made a couple of detours to accommodate some horrific traffic and was very personable and very sweet.
My suggestion for the tour company is when we went to the plantation, we were there for almost 3 hours. In my opinion, you could shorten this tour by half of that amount of time and give us an hour or an hour and a half at the plantation and it would be enough time to see the sights, grab some food and get going. It made for a very long tour. The plantation was beautiful and historical and we were glad that we did it, but we could’ve done it in much less time.
The highlight for us was definitely the swamp tour. The creole captain Tom was very interesting, and he put us on all of the wildlife. We had to see 20+ alligators, even more raccoons, birds, etc. It was a really fun swamp tour.
Overall, I gave it five stars because we did enjoy the tour, it just could’ve been a little shorter with a little less talking at...
