I went here for the first time a few weeks ago when I needed some r&r. I've never been to a place like this as I usually go to more traditional spas. I won't be going back for the following reasons: mediocre service, low quality products, and I question the integrity of the employment practices.
I had a 30 minute foot massage and a "head spa" treatment. The massage was meh - not bad but not nearly as good as I was expecting. Places like this are careful to advertise "foot rubs" as opposed to using the word "massage" because using the word "massage" means you need to be a licensed massage therapist. There is no way anyone in this business is an actual licensed massage therapist.
The head spa: while most of it felt good - the technician had strong, confident hands - I couldn't get past the stench of the really low quality of the products they used (some of which smelled like they had expired) or the fact that my hair was going to look like the hair on an over-used barbie doll. Remember when you were a kid and you played with that plastic hair too much it was all fuzzy and icky? That's what I was afraid of - and that's what happened. It seemed like she used like 1/2 a gallon of crappy shampoo that was maybe one step up from Dawn to scrub the living daylights out of my hair, rubbing it against itself over and over and over again. I didn't come in looking like a greasy mudpie - there's no reason to wash the length of the hair with so much shampoo. And the scrubbing the hair against itself - hair is not a dirty towel: you're damaging the cuticle of the hair when you do that. At the end when she towel dried my hair she did the same thing. I was a frizzy mess for days, regardless of how much conditioning product I put in, and my hair is definitely damaged from this visit.
They also do a little bit of product application to the face with some massage. The massage felt good but the product?! I don't know what it was but I broke out for the first time in decades on my cheeks. It smelled rancid and I couldn't wait to wash my face when I got home. I didn't wash my hair because it was traumatized - I just applied as much conditioning products as I could.
And yet, when it was all over, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the workers. The woman who did my foot massage looked like she would rather be doing laundry, which - why would one expect them to look like rubbing your feet is so much fun and the highlight of their day? right? And despite the rough hair treatment and the crappy products, the woman who did my head spa treatment worked really hard.
I'm not comfortable with this scenario. If you're the kind of person for whom price is the only thing that matters, who thinks that your tips are enough to make up for the probably underpaid work situation (they're not), and that licensure doesn't matter - then go for it. I can't. I believe you get what you pay for and that cheap prices come at a cost of insufficient compensation and low quality products. No thank you.
P.S. I have a real problem with businesses that don't charge sales tax when you pay in cash. It's not technically illegal since they can still impute the tax within the collected amount but let's be honest here - that's not happening. When people don't pay their taxes our essential services - fire, police, sanitation, education (and many others) - are starved of the funding they so desperately need. I'm fine with the credit card surcharge - just not...
Read moreI went here, because I'm married and I at least knew that this place doesn't try anything funny. But I should've tried somewhere else.
First off, they sent in a man to massage me, which I know shouldn't matter, but it does weird me out a little. Most places at least ask if it's OK. I woke up with a lot of back pain, so I figured it doesn't matter that much. I just need the knots worked out.
But then the "massage" starts which consists of this guy standing on the table and using his foot for the first half hour! It didn't do anything, and at many times caused me more pain.
The next ten minutes was him using his elbow to just press it into certain points and again sometimes doing more harm than good.
The next ten minutes he actually used his hands. But felt the knot on my right shoulder blade and quickly moved away and avoid that area.
Then he left the room for a few minutes and came in with hot stones. So the last few minutes was hot stones. And that was the hour.
Also, I should note that my face started to hurt, which sometimes happens at massage places where the table is cheap and you feel the solid table underneath the pillow.
I'm never...
Read moreIf you want to feel worse then when you got there then this is the place for you. This is my second time going. First time I got 30 min body 30 min feet. It was a fine massage nothing special. But I was in pain for a week afterwards. Tried to give a second chance and this time went for scalp treatment. The masseuse was pulling my hair too hard and kept doing it even after I asked her to stop, tried massaging my legs but instead hyperextended my knees. Then brought me to a closet to dry my hair there was a comb with all hair on it that wasn’t mine. This place is gross. Save your money! I’ll never go back to this trashy place. I’m not the type to even leave reviews but my scalp is in so much pain right now and I’m honestly worried they gave me lice or something because that was not a clean experience. I’m so mad. Terrible experience and not even inexpensive. Like I could have gone somewhere else for the same price and a better massage. I also feel like I absorbed that lady’s energy or something. She was definitely overworked and not about making me feel good. There were moments I actually thought she wanted to hurt me because...
