Balady Halal Foods — Attraction in New York

For the most part, Balady Halal Foods is a great grocery store located in the heart of Bay Ridge with a large selection of middle eastern foods, pastries and groceries. However, I haven't really been going there as often because of a very bad experience I had with some of their employees. Around January 17th of this year, (2022), I had gone to Balady in order to get some Yellow, Red and Green peppers for dinner with my Family. I had gone to the bell peppers and started going through the red ones when a Spanish worker came over and asked me if I needed any help, and I told him thanks but no, I'm just trying to pick out some good bell peppers." He then said "oh ok, you're just making a mess," and he said it with a nasty attitude as well. He then went to another Spanish worker and they started to laugh and speak in spanish while looking at me. He gave me an attitude as if me taking out the bell peppers to look at them was a terrible thing. I've never had a single bad experience at Balady Halal Foods up until that point. It's his job to put away boxes and put stuff on the shelves anyway, so I have no idea what he's getting mad over. He has no manners, and he also seems to not have a life since he has nothing better to do then give someone minding their own business a nasty attitude. I have nothing against Balady Halal Foods. Their prices are a little higher then they are at some of the other grocery stores around Bay Ridge but still enjoy shopping there, but they need to do something about their...

UPDATE: Balady has truly gone above and beyond to resolve this issue. They refunded part of the order AND hand delivered the out of stock flanken ribs with a beautiful gift and note. (See photos) They have earned a customer for life and I encourage all to shop and support this business. ————- This review is for their new delivery option. We tried it for the first time today. Overall it is great to have this convenient option, but they need to smooth out the edges.

Many items were out of stock. In fact the main reason to place the order was for Flanken cut ribs which are hard to find halal. However, they were out of stock. Most of the rest of the order was for convenience and can be found locally.

The order arrived 3 hours late. We placed the order for the 9-12 slot, but the order arrived at 3pm. We had plans for the day and had to wait around for the order to arrive.

Two of the bags of meat were leaking, which was not a fun experience to manage or clean up.

The kanafe chocolate bar we ordered came completely melted.

I love this supermarket!!!! Fresh meat, cheese, labneh, eggs, etc. Nice selection of olives and they also have pickled turnips (lifit) and even macdous (stuffed eggplant in oil)! They have recently expanded and it's awesome. Great selection of pita bread, Turkish bread, rolls. They always have fresh whole wheat pita which my husband loves!!! Fresh nuts and canned nuts from the Middle East and a variety of pastries. Awesome selection of dried beans, harissa, olive oils, canned goods! The butchers are really nice and prepare your meat exactly as you ask them. They even have a female butcher, Hanna, who speaks English very well for us women who don't have a total grasp of Arabic. Haha! She's a lovely young lady! They all speak English but at times I love to talk to a woman. The cashiers are all sweet and will package your goods as you request them to do. I love Balady's and travel from NYC to shop there!!!!!! They always call a car service and the young guys help pack my goods in the car service!...
