The Gregory Best Western has zero amenities and nickel and dimes its guests. The rate was over $200 (with a military discount it was $179), which is high for Brooklyn and extremely high for what The Gregory offers. I've stayed in hotels in NY and across the country from VA to OR. Never have I witnessed a hotel with such poor conditions and services. First, rooms are not equipped with any appliances. Each customer must order a fridge or microwave at a very high cost. Forget about the idea of a stocked bar. You don't even get the fridge. A mini fridge is $10/night and use of the room safe is $1.50/night. I've never had to pay a fee to use a room safe - a deposit for the key, but never a fare for use of the safe itself. The hotel does not provide access to a microwave in case you bring some dinner back from a restaurant. Those who want to use a microwave must request and pay for one and if other guests have ordered all of them you are out of luck. The toilets are very low flush and in one case overflowed. We waited 25 minutes for assistance. The shower water runs from luke warm to scolding hot. The blankets are extremely flimsy much like a blanket one would use to take a nap and an extra blanket was not stocked in the room. When requested, an additional blanket was provided, which had a huge classy cigarette burn on it. When I asked the front desk if a microwave was available somewhere to heat my dinner, the front desk woman told me that all the microwaves were ordered by other guests and there was no other microwave in the entire building. I expressed frustration with The Gregory's lack of amenities and when the bartender overheard, she was kind enough to heat my dinner thereby showing how unhelpful and insincere the front desk woman was in her claim that the entire hotel lacked a single microwave for general use. The televisions have basic channels (NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS) and a few cable stations (CNN, CW, FOX News, 4 ESPN stations, USA, TNT, TBS, Travel Channel, Discovery, Food Network, and 1 Encore channel). Some channels did not get clear reception and there was no option to purchase a film in case you want an early night or you feel sick and want to stay in for the day. The hotel does not have a gym. Its breakfast options are typical of any basic Best Western though the coffee was weak like what you'd find at a gas station. Last, the hotel does not offer assistance for guests with a lot of luggage - not a person to help or hotel roller.
Our stay: 8 days/8 nights. $1524 ($190.50/night) + $28 (amount of military discount) = $218+/night.
This is by far the worst hotel I've ever encountered. Using a basic cost/benefit analysis, The Gregory Best Western in Brooklyn is NOT worth the money or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe hotel is outdated in maintenance. The lobby is in very good condition. However, once you get off the elevator and the doors open to the next floor, things change. For two days, there was a clean bag of trash as soon as I exited the elevator next to the trash can full of empty bottles. The carpet is dirty, I smelled marijuana throughout the hallway and a moldy smell. Almost all the doors James have scratched paint, there were damaged areas to the wall that had been patched , however by an amateur. Upon entering the room, it smelled stale. There was dust in the not used areas. The mirror had dust and small residue on it from poor maintenance. The wallpaper above the toilet had a tear. There was a small hole in the drywall by the door on the inside of the room. The plug to the lamp was so loose on both sides that my charger had trouble charging my phone. The second night, I switched to the wall outlet across the room. I had rented a second room for my daughter and her husband, and the couch was broken because when I sat in it, I settled all the way down, and I needed help getting out of it. There was a big white stain on this bright blue couche. The bathroom door somehow locked on its own the second day, which almost caused a big delay for a three day trip from Michigan. The staff did a very good job of working to correct this issue. The breakfast area ran out of napkins. The employees were always professional and accommodating. To me it is obvious that management only focuses on the bare essentials, and this is not necessarily because that is how they want to manage, there is obviously directive from above to skimp of investing at a higher level to maintain this property . For $300 a night, I expected more, and I stayed at a better hotel in Manhattan for roughly the same price with more amenities and parking garage. This hotel did not meet our expectations. The staff did give us a discount, which I felt was fair, and this review in no way is affected by the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCREDIT CARD SCAM ALERT!!! We stayed at the hotel 5 months ago in April and it was an ok stay- nothing special. We used their car valet service and at the end of our stay were provided with a receipt that we had paid for everything. Few days ago (in mid August) I received a call from their manager saying that our card was not charged for the valet service and she wanted me to authorize the payment and provide new card information since my original card had expired at the end of May. I was dumbfounded and amazed and said that I would NOT authorize such charges 5 months after we had stayed and had been provided a receipt. She proceeded to say that there had been a mistake at the front desk and the card was not charged which I don't feel that it is really my responsibility. I would understand completely if it was a week, 2 weeks or even a month later but 5 months later is just pure madness and might I add, highly unprofessional and suspicious. So our conversation ended with me saying very calmly that I do NOT authorize any charges on my card at this time and she said: "Ok, bye!". Well, I looked at my bank account today and I see the charge from this hotel that was submitted yesterday (5 months later). I do not know how they got my credit card details because the original card I had used for this transaction is expired. I realize that the credit card number always stays the same and only expiration dates and codes on the back change so they must have guessed my expiration date until they got them right. This is so unprofessional over $27 charge. I would not recommend giving them any of your credit card details because obviously they feel like they can authorize a payment at their own will at any time that they desire even if it is them who made a mistake at the check-out counter. DO...
