"BIP" is overused and overbooked. Too many soccer teams have to parcel up the field into too many small areas for practice - often too small to practice passing or corner kicks. Only part if the worn out turf has been replaced which makes the field bumpy. What is this mayor doing with our tax dollars? Very windy in winter because of the exposed location on the East River. Small playground for younger kids and adjacent dog run. Small bathrooms with one stall, beaten up and covered with graffiti. Flood lights in the evening. Very difficult parking for soccer parents. Large parts closed off for repairs. How many years will take these repairs take the city? Bottomline: unfortunately this is as good as it gets in a city in which tax dollars are wasted on ineffective mental health experiments on the homeless which leaves no funds for our kids and the...
Read moreThis is a nice park with a nice view of the city and the river. The only reason I ever personally come here is to play pickup soccer. The turf field is honestly not of the best quality, if your cleats don't have enough traction you'll be slipping and sliding, and unfortunately turf shoes really don't cut it. To make things worse the turf is cut up and uneven in several places, which can make gameplay wonky at times. Also, of you shoot the ball too high on the north side of the park, it's highly likely it will go over the fence, and it's quite a hassle to get the ball, especially because it's private property beyond the fence. All that being said, I still enjoy my soccer games here, and really enjoy the atmosphere of the park. Sitting on the long concrete bench before/after the game is nice too, the geometry is conducive towards bringing...
Read moreThis review is for the playground itself. Not the river views and soccer field. Basically my reaction is this: nice sprinkler feature, but for such a popular area, you'd think this playground was a bit bigger. This park deserves one of those super playgrounds. Also, there are only two toddler swings nearby. TWO. And the person who designed and authorized the toddler swings probably doesn't have kids because the swings are super low so you need to strain your back while bending over to push your kid. Tip: rise those suckers up by shortening the chains. And with only two of them, you have a situtaion where the most impatience beings on earth (16 month olds) have to wait. There are some cool wooden play features here: like the bounce pads and the train and the wooden bridge. Fun features for sure. And yes, great...
